If you are good at electronics and can troubleshoot circuits, Electronics for music makes very cheap PCB's and small parts kits, I have a bunch of ther stuff in an analog modular, and it sounds great.
I think the TIdal was at 600 euro a year ago, not sure what the price is now with the dollar dropping as low as Bush's credibility.
