SCSI Problems - Couldn't find the answer in manual

ain't nothin wrong with floppies. I still use them.

My guess is either the zip drive is faulty or the SCSI board has a blown fuse or something along those lines....

Was the MPCeditor software available when OS 3.10 was initally released..?

it works for other people who use 60s. Try to cop another zip drive and see. Thats to bad is the SCSI is blown....

So you tried formatting it anyway? Redgreenz is way off, you just need to format it in your MPC, until you do this on the 60 it will not recognise it, but it will let you hit format, If you cant hit format then it could be something bigger.

If it's a ZIP 100, then you should be able to format it on the MP. If it's a ZIP250 drive, with a ZIP100 disk in it, then you need to use the MPC editor to format it. That's what I had to do after I installed the upgrades. The SCSI board is fine, as it's virtually brand new.

Yeah, I can use the "Format" feature, but after a few seconds I get that same error message about no SCSI drive detected.

Maybe it's just a faulty drive or cable...

what side do you have the SCSI cable hooked into on the zip drive? Is it on the the terminal with the picture of the little printer on it, or is it on the other side?

On the port with "Zip" directly above it.....

Would increasing the detection time make any difference..? I currently have it set at 60 seconds to detect the drive.

I'm not sure about that either...I have my 3k on auto detect and it seems to work fine?

Try using a new zip drive. Preferably a zip100 with 100mb disks. Maybe 250MB just ain't gonna swing for you unless you do it Redgreenz way. I don't know, it was his MP so call him up and have him walk you through it step by step...maybe you'll get lucky and Rohan will come through and see your post.

I'm using the 100MB drive now.

I think it has to be either the drive or the cable.

Did you plug or unplug the scsi drive while either unit was on?

Noob,

1. Take the ZIP100 disk out of the ZIP drive

2. Connect the ZIP drive to your PC and make sure the PC recognizes it.

3. Insert the 100MB zip disk

4. Fire up the MPC Editor program from midicase.com

5. Select the 'Windows Formatter' from the MPC Editor's menu

Once it's done formatting, close the MPC editor, then try accessing the ZIP disk from your PC; ie. open up 'My Computer' then double click on he ZIP drive. You should see two files: CREDIT.TO and MANSELL.R, which means that the MPC Editor has done it's job. Power off the 60 and attach the ZIP drive, turn on the ZIP drive, then turn on the 60.

Once the 60 is powered up, press the 'Disk' key, then select option 7 (Load, erase, rename). Turn the jog wheel and see if you see the two files on the disk. If you do, then it's all good. Now all you need to do is make your kit using the MPC editor on your PC, save it to the ZIP, then load it up in the 60. I'll call you in a little bit.

You sound like you know your stuff. My problem:

MPC 2000; 100 Iomega external zip - NO computer involved. It says "SCSI not ready." I have a lot of sequences stored on the zip disk. I have not used the MPC 2000 for a while. I don't know how to set the ID either, but I think it's on five. I lost my manuel - do you know where to get one?

Assuming you're speakin on the MPC2000XL, download the manual from http://www.akaipro.com

As for the SCSI:

1. make sure that your ZIP drive is set for something like ID 5 or 6 (You can verify this by looking on the back of the ZIP drive)

2. Make sure the ZIP drive is terminated, unless you have more than one SCSI device in the chain (You can verify the termination by looking on the back of the ZIP drive for a switch that says 'Termination').

The manual will tell you EXACTLY how to set the MPC up to look for SCSI devices.

Well, I've done about everything I can do with this drive and my 60 as far as my limited capacity goes....

Countless attempts to get the 60 to recognize the drive failed...LOL....And I do mean "countless."

According to Iomega's site, computers running XP(which is what I run) don't recognize external SCSI devices.....Apparently you have to manually adjust the SCSI card and some other stuff that is way out of my league.

Either the cable, the drive or both are bad.

Before I trash this drive, anyone have any last suggestions..?
