leaving the mpc on overnight

I don't see why folk leave it on...I can understand letting your computer run for long times and I don't know about yall but I dropped a good amount of money of my gear...including my two MP's. I turn mine off just to be safe because shipping to forat and VST gets expensive. I have all my gear hooked up to power conditioners but I still ain't leaving it on.

SLT, that's because there is no good reason to leave your gear on. It was designed to be switched on and off a lot. The power switch may be the most robust thing on any MPC.

I donno but I left my GameCube on in the middle of playing Resident Evil 4 one late evening and 2 days later realized that I'd done so. When I turned my Tv on I figure what the hell and continued playing.....and last night I finally finished the game at 62 Hours.....40 of those hours were due to me forgetting to turn it off.......hahahaha (but realistically it probably was about 45 hours between dying and starting levels over again).

Most professional studios dont power down unless there is a problem. Just get yourself a good air conditioned room and you should be straight. My equipment sounds warmer when I leave it on. especially my Mixing board and Amp.

They also deduct any repairs or damaged gear.

I'm with SLT, I'm taken no chances with my sixty. I usually leave mine on about 8-10 hours to finish a beat. I have trouble going back and working on unfinished tracks so I just grind it out and finish all at once. I like to take breaks though, get on the net, play the ps2, watch some tube with my chick, probably takes really about 5-6 hours hands on for me to finish but once the track is done off goes the power.

the screen power down on 3k comes real handy. helps somewhat with the heating issues, but keeps the mpc hot enough to toast pop tarts during breaks

Ahh man you guys are WILD!! Crazy duudes you are! Leaving your MPC's on. I think thats NUTZ! Homie i dunno about all that, just thinking of it gives me the chills.... I think im gonna be sick.

I don't know man, mine doesn't get hot at all and i have it on from morning to night, maybe just a little wrm around the vents but i aint toasting no pop tarts or anything. maybe you just rockin it too hard

I can't say which is better or worst. But im'a play the role of a pro studio. That said, I never shut anything off. None of it.

I left my SP running for 7-8 months. Never a single glitch. Never locked up, or bugged out. I did have an SP that would get tempramental occassionally and jump to 220 BPM and auto play the sequence at the same time... But that wasn't the 7-8 month running SP, and, had nothing to do with powering on or off.

With that said, I've always percieved vintage equipment like an old Zenith TV. If you keep clicking that shit on and off, eventually the pictures starts to fade. Same thing with these old electronic mother boards. I don't think they like blasts of voltage 5 times a day. Seems to me that would wear them out quicker.

A lota people talk about heat, but heat isn't ever an issue unless your equipment isn't properly ventilated. I keep my studio at 68-70 degrees at all times, dust removal system in effect, power conditioners etc. A lota cats over look that aspect of the studio. The power, the cabling etc. When really, thats like 90% of the battle i've learned.

I suppose since this is a 60 thread, I should make note that I did the same shit when I use to rock the 60. No issues ever.

I was thinking after I kicked that reply above.. Theirs one exception to my rule. TUBES! Anything tube related, shut it down when not in use. Unless you don't mind replacing the Tubes once a year. Tubes have a pretty short shelf life, especially the cheaper tubes. Take that into consideration if you follow any of what I say in this peice.

TV screens are also made out of tube(CRT). since many of you dont have heating issues on 3k, is there something wrong with mine? i always thought it was normal. even shadow and some others mentioned that this thing gets hot. now that i think about it, most other electronic equipment gets jsut as hot. tv, computer, stereo, etc...

The pro studio argument doesn't work for the home studio. THe PRo's don;t keep it on because its better for the gear, but because it is convinient since you'll have people in and out using it daily, and switching everything on and off gets to be a pain when you have that much gear. Turning one switch with all that gear could blow a fuse on the fuse box, but gear is designed to be switched on and off.
