Overheating Question..

It's actually quite an easy mod, you just need to run the wire from the inverter board to a switch. i am not sure which is the best way to do it, t cut the power line going to the inverter board or to cut the AC voltage going from the inverter board to the Backlight.

Anyone know how the 3000 does it? I'll see if i have schematics.

For the switch I would just get the 3000's contrast knob with the push switch built in and wire it up, it might be easy to drop it in instead of the 60's, and even if it's not, it still beats drilling into the 60, especially since the switch is running a power line, so if it touches the chasis at any point it could cause major problems.

check the voltage and make sure it's the correct voltage for your country. I have what is referred to as a gray market mpc3000, meaning it's a Japanese model illegally shipped to the US. I have a voltage converter but it doesn't work worth a damn. Mine heats up quick but the Akai people said it won't damage anything, with or without the converter. eventually I think i'm gonna buy a US power transformer, but it's costly. i've had mine for about 7 or 8 years with no problems thus far, but I'm afraid to leave it on for too long. my cousin leaves his on for days and it never overheats. he has the US model tho'.

i heard that from a tech from here ( france ) , saying that the differences of frequency ( 60 instead of 50 hz in US ) of the electrical system makes the gear die faster .
