Fuxored 60II LCD

i recently got an o'scope at a swapmeet along with other crazy ish for $100 AU

as you can see in my pdf i took my screen out and powered it up then put it back in... and all was ok

Taking the screen out is the easy part. Taking the screen apart and putting it back together is where it gets tricky.

Oh well. just dropped $200 for a new LCD. Forat told me I totally **** the screen when i broke the seal on the ribbon and the circuit board. B Forat said once it's unglued and the grooves are broken, it's impossible to put it back together. At least i learned a valuable lesson.

The grand total for my fully maxed out 60II is now approaching $735. Guess it's still a good deal and I'll have a brand new backlight and LCD when all is said & done.

Of course they did.
The time needed to repair the display plus the obligation to a repaired display wouldn't be a smart move to them.
Replacing it would be the best path.
The labor cost to repair it would have been close to the cost to replace it.
Yet would still be the same old damaged display that has a higher failure potential since it was repaired.
Probably best for all involved.

True dat. For what it's worth, VST said they couldn't repair it either. The offered to install a a 3000 LCD with a mod to fit the 60II. They wanted me to ship my mpc to them for the install... Forat has 60 screens in stock so I avoided shipping & labor costs.

Look at it this way.
If you get it back and it acts up next week, you can call Forat and they will deal with it.
If they repaired it, the case will be different.
I hope that the total investment for the 950/60 combo hasn't gotten too bad.
Who knows you may just end up using the 2500/950 combo and selling the 60.

I plan on keeping the 60II forever. Not sure if it's the limitations or the 12bit sound but I enjoy getting down on it more than the 2500. Once I get the screen back next week, I plan on linking them all up via midi and slaving logic to the 60 via smpte. Should be fun.

I just think it's the vibe of the box.
It doesn't really sound 12-bit, but it's not a 16-bit sound either.
A 60/3k with a workstation or rack is a vibe the 2500 can't match.
People can argue all they want but it's not the same.
Also slave the 60 to Logic instead of Logic to the 60.

yeah, definitely has a vibe that makes me want to work.

I heard slaving the mpc to logic flattens out the groove. I haven't noticed it synching the 2500 to logic via midi beat clock.


Hopefully i'll have my screen tomorrow.

Got my brand new LCD for the 60 & i'm loving it. Looks bright and clear with the new backlight.

Is it that complicated to change the backlight on a MPC MKI, cause I have to change mine ?

No its not that bad. Carefully disassemble the display. Unsolder 2 wires. Install the new backlght and resolder.

Slide the backlight out. Make sure you do NOT open the actual LCD. I'm $200 poorer from learning this lesson the hard way.

Yeah..if you have to start prying things apart then you have gone to far.
