My mpc 60 is going crazy

The exact same thing JUST happened to my 3000. It freaked out during a dope sequence i was working on, powered up once properly, i hit a pad the screen went blank, now when i power it up all the three LEDs are on and the screen is blank, and the vst website is down, im fuked i think. time to break out the ASR....

i got em, they said it could be one of three things a loose ribbon, the board, or the power supply, 1/2 hor to 3 hour job at $65 an hour (daaammmmnnnnn!!!!!) and the guy at the local Akai service center was such an azzhole when i talked to him on the phone (he found out i needed my MPC repaired, his ghetto radar went off and he basically hung up on me) i rather send it to VST. thanks man.

I have spoken to several US repair shops. Many are dropping support for Akai products since they cannot get parts for them, and when they do it's after several months of waiting and sometimes the wrong part. They would rather turn business away than get into that mess.

That could be (makes sense), he said he could do it, but when i started talking about payment and hourly rates he started getting weird.

I have the MPC60 with 3.10e, two weeks ago it started rebooting in the middle of a tapping a beat, or tuning a sound. Either it would turn on and off, or it would freeze with the horizontal lines across the screen.
I'm in NY, so I brought it over to Rogue Music, same deal $65/hr, they said it may be the circuit board and if so they would need to order parts from Japan (4-8 weeks).
Interested to hear how this works out....

i sent mine today after peeking inside, the boards look like a 1960 model waching machine.

The insides look much more 80s, few surface mount parts and such.

60's washingmachines look like hot water heaters inside!

LOL...elmac, i swear man, me and my pops unhooked my grandmas washing machine about a week ago to rake it to the dump, the circuit board inside looked like the mpc3000. maybe the machine was a 70s model, regardless it was old.

Just got the call tonight, it's fixed, took them an 1 1/2 hrs, came out to $117, I had the blue screen with the lines on it and they said it is all set..
Pretty psyched, when I find out what the problem was I'll let y'all know....

Akai/VST called me on my celly today (sexy sounding broad working the lines i might add) and let me know it was the power supply, $90 total cost. Not bad.
