the floppy thing he is talking about is the inverter... it's a part of the mpc's LCD display. What he suggested is that you unplug the connectors.. then power the mpc on to see if the noise stops. If it does... you know it's the inverter making the noise. That is not a rare problem.

Oh ok, now i understand. Where's that inverter located? Is that box right after the floppy?

Disconnected the inverter cables - noise gone!
How can i fix this? New inverter?

I am not understanding this bit, can you elaborate?

Just realize that my power stepdown is making noise by itself, even with any device getting power through it. When i connect the MPC the power suply makes some noise, but not much - i guess it's normal.

But the other noise around the floppy still here. I will try to record a video

The high pitched noise near the floppy is probably coming from the LCD backlight inverter.

It is a small square silver metal box on a small PCB just behind the floppy drive, inbetween the back of the floppy drive and the Filter PCB where F1 fuse is.

It should have a thin 2 wire cable connected to it from the power supply, and another thin 2 wire cable connecting it to the LCD backlight.

This is a common cause of high pitched whine/hum/noise in equipment with backlit LCD displays.

To confirm it, you can temporarily disconnect the thin 2 wire cable that provides power to the Filter PCB/inverter, from the Power PCB, to see if the noise goes away when the intverter power is disconnected.

Ok, tried to turn on the MPC with the inverter disassembled (inverter not touching the chassis), and the noise still there - Only go away if i unplug the power wires.

Do i need a new inverter or there's any workaround?
(appreciate the help from you good folks)

Don't know if they are still available new, if not, then there is possibly a substitute you could use.

Apparently they all do it to a certain extent, and it might help to re-flow the solder and glue the noisy bits down.

Can't really help with more specific advice, have not tried to replace or repair one myself.

SDC if you head over to the mpc 60 bible section, yesterday I posted about renewing the inverter for an aftermarket one which works a treat. I have actually got some on the way so can always sort you out with one when they arrive. The nice thing is aswell they are cheap as you like.

I'm not sure if i feel comfortable chopping up the original inverter cables..
Is there any direct swap inverter available?

Don't feel comfortable becuase you are not confident with the soldering skills or becuase you want to keep your 60 original? It's an absolute piece of cake to do, doesn't take much working out. I will be doing it to one of my 3ks in the next few days, can always do some pictures for you so you can see exactly what to do...

You can try and source an original one, but you will still have to unsolder resolder etc. To be honest, I imagine the inverters that were used in the 60/3000 have long since been discontinuned, but you may be able to find one that is fairly similar, if you are prepared to spend a few hours digging through internet pages.

Not to mention the fact that the original inverters part number in my machine, bought back no significant reuslts. I'm sure Simon or someone with access to the service manual will be able to provide you with detailed part numbers.

Edit:: The part number appears to be 'NICHIA n105-05-5', there is already another thread from years back with someone saying they couldn't find anything relating to it... viewtopic.php?f=4&t=25537
Bottom post. However the OP does say he got a replacement from vst. He states $35, and that was 7 years ago, so prpbably even more now.

I can solder but only if know what i'm doing :)
So, if you can post some photos of the process, that will be great for everyone with the same issue!
