His first love is the 3000, I feel like I screwed it up by mentioning sentimentality, but he started with the 3000, then got the 60, it would be hard to part with your first MP, unless it's a XL or 2000 ;)

Forgive me for my absence...I've been working like an animal for these last 2 days. Em's correct...I started on the 3000, I've owned two 2000xl's but they just didn't do it for me. 2000xl's are dope if you've got a real studio to complement them...but the 60 and 3000 got a good sound coming right out the box. I have to sell the 60 because I don't have a need for two MPs. Now if I had a 16+ channel mixer to run the eight outs from both MP's, S950, and keyboards + turntable...that would be ill. But I don't. Em says the buttons on the 3k are crowded but I'm used to them so they never seemed crowded to me. The 60 is ill though..all the buttons in your face and all that goodness. I just like the agility and memory size of the 3k more than the 60. I sure wish I could keep the 12 bit for the drums but I got 12 bit modules all over the place in my room. Maybe if I took the time to learn my S950 better, than I could use it more with the 60 and I would keep it, but thats the way it is right now.

Humble- we still cool...I can always sell my 3k for a 60 in the future but look at it this way. I got a 60 with filters since the S950 is pretty much the same thing. Overall the 60 is better than the 3k. I even like the 60II because the screen is on the right side and I'm left handed. This way I don't have to look over my hand to see the screen all the time..plus the green light in the 60 works real good while the one on my 3k is broken. In fact...the 60 is so sick that I should just keep it, but we will see what happens. Even my girl says that the beats comin of my 60 sound better than the one's I do with the 3k. The only thing that got me with the 60 is the sample time. 26.2 sec is perfect, but I got big programs and when I load them I only got 10secs left. That's fine, but then I can add all the little extra sample bits and ohhss..umpfs..and sax squeals cuz the sound memory is expended. Of course this is where the S950 is suppose to come in. Problem is, I have a very limited amount of free time, so redoin my style on another setting (60) is actually costin me time cuz school and work will be back in my face before I know it and I'll be back to making 1 beat every two weeks instead of three quality beats a week.

Check your PM's redgreenz...I got at you.

The 950 is really buttery to use, but use the 900 manual to get into it. Yeah, the 950 and the W-30 are there for those extra bits.

Remember, it all comes down to practice, the more you make music, the bettter you get at it, even if you don;t complete that many tracks, each song is just a stepping stone for your skill. Maybe it is the longer time that makes the 60 tracks better. Seriously, having the 60 will force you to get into the 950, but with the 3000 you won't really need to, because it doesn't really sound like you are using anywhere near the 32 MB's of the 3000.

Mess with the 950 and W 30 with the 60 and you will hear a big difference.

After what you posted I am pretty sure you should keep the 60, maybe get a small sampler with mad time if you want even more sample time later, but if even your girl likes the 60 beats better, and it's fully expanded and as mint as it looks...

You sure the 3000 backlight isn't just switched off? Push the contrast button.

yeah..I turned the lights off in my room and I can see the 3k light but it's dimmer than the the 60's.

I just took about 20 pics of the 60, I'ma let Redgreenz consider my price or throw me an offer. I'm not going for profit or nothing, just don't need two mp's. You know Em...the more you talk the more I'm thinking. Most likely I'm not gonna catch a decent price for the 60 and my 3k is worth a ton a half right now. Sh*t, I could pay off a credit card by loosing the 3k. I'ma go to bed early tonight and if Redgreenz don't want it..I'm make my official decision tommorow.

MPC 60
W-30
S-950.

To be real...one of the reason's I roll with the 3k so much is because of my mixer to. I got an old school Soundcraft Folio that has 8 channels and then my DPS 12. I'm not really into the "virtual tracks" things, so I have six analogue inputs on the DPS12 and 8 channels on the Soundcraft. I usually run 6 of the 8 outs from the MP into the DPS12 and I haven't been using the Soundcraft lately. The W-30 got 8 outs too...maybe I should check into a bigger mixer or something cuz this is something I'm probably gonna have to do if I keep the 60. I'm just used to doing everything on the 3k and 2 keyboards.

But what I really want to rock is this:

MPC 3000

SP1200 or SP12...

I been dreaming about this setup for 2 years now. But I wouldn't pay more than 600 for a 1200 so I'll probably never get one.

whatever, only you know what is best, but you flip floppin like a gemeni, and that's not good. 3000's are easier to get. Nobody uses all 8 outs at once, with only 8 channels you should be running everything as stereo into your mixer then assign the sounds to the individual outs when you are ready to record, so you know exactly how many sounds from each piece you need. A bigger mixer would be nice, but you don;t need all 8 outs from every piece hooked up at once, just grab 4 from each, probably more than enough in most cases.

There is nothing stopping you from using the W30 and the 950 with the 3k, so if that's what you want to keep then that's cool too, but it seems that the time constraints have you stressing stuff you shouldn't.

Just use both machines, an hour each or whatever, and see which one you can say goodby too easier. It seems like its the 60 that will leave, and that's cool, but be clear on that before you let them go. Regret really sucks.

word elmacaco, I feel like John Kerry...or better yet that kat Philly Stress. I ain't ever been like this before, especially since I'm an advocate of stickin with what works. I've already spent hours on both so we'll see whats up. The most outs I've ever used on the MP is 6 so up till now I've had everthing covered. I just lost my discipline for a moment and let my gear lust get out of hand.

1.

Yeah I'm big on really knowing my needs and getting stuff that will last for a long time with me. I've only sold one conscious gear purchase which I got cuz it was real cheap, sold it made some money got something I liked better. I am probably gonna sell one thing in the near future, maybe a month, cuz I just don;t use it or like it enough. But I only have one MPC, having two would seriously be difficult, as there is really no need for two, and I think it would divide my focus.

keep the 60... thing is ill, and you can always get a 3k down the road... 60s are diminishing quick... especially now that more people are looking for them and picking all them up... just look on ebay.. you got at least 20 people bidding on each 60 that goes up there now... and with a machine made so long ago you know you are gonna start seeing less of them..

By elmacaco Fri May 27, 2005 2:51 pm
All Biases aside he should really make the desicion based on what h enjoys making music on the most or what gets him the results he needs. if he really likes 16 levels of filter cutoff, well, he should go 3000. That is a hard as choice for real.

By 2wice Fri May 27, 2005 3:12 pm
You can always filter before you sample.. But I can easily imagine if you started on a 3K and are used to all the extra sample time its probably hard to give up. The 3K is just the 60 on steroids in my opinion + if you got the s950 you could still go to town on some 12bit chit. Maybe theres someone you know close by you can sell her to, that way you can still check up on her sometimes and mess with her when youre getting bored with the 3K.

SLT - I can see u on the fence with this 1 but I would sticc with the 3000. Headz cop the 60 4 the 12-bit and the sequencer........ u got the sequencer with the 3000 and 12-bit with the 950. In addition, it sounds like u got a proven tracc record with the 3000. If your beats knocc harder on the 60, then rocc that. If not, slang it and don't look bacc. This is coming from a proud 60 owner himself. The 3000/950 blowed-out is all u need and more. Big up on whatever u decide. Uno

Yeah...i guess SLT's been having a hard time....Sell the 60 & you're gonna need one heck of a HUG!!! :(

but hey...I guess the 'OTHER' woman (MPC3000) knows how to PLEASE too right?!!!

All hard times aside....lose the gear-lust head for a second & just think hard dude....we'll support what ever decision you make...(As long as you sell the 3000 & clear the credit card & get enuff money to buy a 1200...oh & send my cheque for MP guidance Counselling)...No bias!!!

LOL...nah...sorry kid...its a hard one but El's right....Only you gone know what feels right for you dude!!!

Either way...you're set & you have AN MPC so the rest'll be academic!!!

i was gonna sell the 3k for some cash and buy a 60 with the money left, but i cant get rid of it. i just put too much money and time into this thing to sell for what they go for nowadays... nobodys willing to pay more than 1500. ill just have to get me another 950 for the grit when opportunity comes around. after all, im too attached to this box anyway. nice room SLT

thanks peezie. You ain't gonna get more than $1500 for a 3k because it ain't worth 1,500. I paid $1,240 for my 3k a while back and that's about how much I would try to sell it for.
