Im sure someone can do a experiment like mentioned in another post and just do a true test and put all this to rest so if the 1K,s sequencer is placing notes not where they should be then we can all know for sure, as this is your argument really as i understand it

jeez man I was only trying to help. Seems like I touched a nerve.

Seriously, it's clear what has to change, and I'm not the only one who finds the "what should I buy" posts annoying, so you'll hear about it.

Take the advice or leave it.

lou u need to relax. no one here is attacking you. Whatter your perogative is thats all you, but dont expect to ask a question then get offened when people give you advice. Thats not to cool...

to tell you the truth man,

i was feeling like my 60 does this also, but then i was thinking it is the pads or something, sometimes i get double hits, or sometimes it'll not hit right... it seems like my pads dont register if i hit them offcenter, if i hit the pads on the outer edge it wont register all the time, so i was wondering if all 60s had similar pad characteristics or if it was just MY pads... but then i just realized that my timing and pad banging skills just suck, seriously... cuz i can get it programmed right, it just usually takes a few times, sometimes more than a few times :? but i can usually get what i want out of it eventually, and i have NEVER used the step edit at all... i really need to experiment with the step edit though soon :) ... maybe part of my trouble is that i usually try and bang out a full 8 bars or so, without copying/pasting events, so maybe that contributes to why it sometimes takes me multiple takes to record the sequence the way i want... i dont know if this is anything similar to what youre talking about, but this is something that happens to me on the 60, and i dont know if its me or what... but be careful if you decide to cop a 60... it may give you the same kinda troubles, it may not... i think that in my case it is just my wack pad banging/sequencing skills, not the equipment... but maybe not... id love to get all new pads, or clean mine out and then see how they act... but for now, ill just live with my wackness...

My 1k pads do that sometimes. Well actually it is just pad 3. What can I do to fix this? :?

When I used the 60 and had TC on I had much the same problem. I had to re-do things on this one particular beat I did I don't know how many times before I got it right. Then I realized I had too much space at the begining of the samples and that threw everything off. On the 60 because there is no wave form editing sometimes you can have too much space at the beginning of the sample and not realize it as easily. So you can be hitting the pad on time for when the sound actually starts but it's off time because how you have it chopped. I dont mind having to re-do beats for that reason though...

My Problem with the 1k is this...and this sounds nuts.....but the sequencer is too damn tight. Like everytime you hit the pad it's dead on. When you use Timing correct the notes are placed sooo tight it doesn't sound natural for Hip Hop in my ears. Shit sounds perfect for electronic/dance/rave stuff though. If you want Tight effin timing the 1k is definitely the way to go. When people say the 1k timing is tight I never disagree. But in some instances it may be tight to a fault. What I want from a sequncer is some looseness not super tightness understand? I can loosen things up on the 1k but the timing is always a lil too rigid. And my ear picks up the same thing in stuff I hear from the other 1k cats. When you try to go loose it goes completely outta time. The same techniques for making things more loose on the other MPC sequencers have worked very well when I tried them and really sat down and tried to make something dope instead of just a fast barely fleshed out beat on those machines. When I try these techniques on the 1k it's just not happening. It's either still too rigid, barely passable for what would satisfy me, or off time.

why don't you try a SP12 or a 1200? Use it with the 1k and tell us how that combo is.

I would love to try out a SP 1200. If I could get my hands on one, I would probably be the only cat in my city with one. I wish gear was more accessible here. If I suddenly became rich I would cop every piece of gear in a heartbeat, and just flowers with em to see what they are like.

You got the sp1200. How is it as a controller?

This is only the case when you don't know how to propperly use the 60's editing features. the Play X feature gives you such control that silence at the begining of a sample or cutting the very beginning off has no reason to happen unless you want it to.

I'm supposed to help a guy out with his 1000 this week, I'll check out how the quantize feels. the XL always feels mad late to me, even when you hit the play or record or stop buttons, like it takes a few milliseconds more than with others, and the same delay o the pads and such. it could just be that I noticed t on a bad OS one or a messed up one, but I remember the first 1000's had a problem with pad latency, but this is pad and button latency, perhaps the version of your OS affects it. Have you tried other 1000 OS's to see if it changes the TC feel? they may have tweaked it.

I have the latest OS. I haven't tried the others to see if there is a difference. I might do that just for the heck of it. I like experimenting like that anyway.

Play X control? The mpc 60 I used wasn't upgraded I just remember when you trimmed your samples it was by numbers, and that how much or how little space you left at the beginning of the sample(I'm talking milliseconds) affected the timing quite a bit, or at least was pretty noticeable to me.

unupgrades then you might not have that feature, but then all you gotta do is tune the sample down to hear how off or on you are. I usually don't have to tune down, I chop real tight, but I know some people leave a bit of silence there for weird edits, like play it out then change the soft start of the sample for a different feel.

hmm...slowing it down so you can hear better where the sample starts. That's a good idea. Similar idea as zooming in on a wave form. Yeah I know..I'm a little to used to waveforms.

When do I ever get offended by advice? It's the manner in which the advice is given that's not particularly to my liking.

Personally, I don;t think anything you are saying makes any sense. I think you have a hard time making up your mind and think too much about decisions and then second guess yourself.

The timing you are refering to is the quantize timing, so PPQN may or may not affect it, the stablity of the clock might, and the 1000 did have a bunch of Quality control issues, but if you rely on quantizing that much then it won't matter what you use, because it sounds like regardless you won;t put in the time to practice to get it right. After all them MP's, you can't blame the tools man, it you that has to change if you are gonna get anywhere.

How many MPC's have you tried MR. Elmacaca? I think it's been every single one. You settled on the 60 right? Cause the 60 has certain qualities to you that make it more appealing right? Well I'm searching for the one that sits right with me. I love the 1k. I just don't like the way the notes fit in the sequence. Same reason most cats don't like the Sp 303 or other sequencers, cause they just don't like the timing. Does it matter that some other cat can make a dope track on it and be satisfied? No, because it depends on the user.

If I want to go through and experiment with different types of gear it's my prerogative. If I want to explore possibilities and ask for some input that's my perogative too. If I don't want to hear cats tell me something is black when I know it's white...that's my perogative too. Sorry for being a little more expressive and not super logical. You might not understand what I was trying to get across.

It's unfortunate that I live in a place that doesn't have a ton of beatmakers and I can just go and try or borrow their gear to see how I like it. Most gear isn't even in the stores here. If I want to see what something is like....most of the time I have to go on E-bay...buy it...see what it's like 1st hand and say yea or nay.

Elmacaca don't make any comments on my motivations or train of thought when you don't know me and don't know what I'm thinking, or why I do things or did certain things in the past, because you don't know **** about me. You know your gear and you know all your technical junk. Don't assume you know people just as well.

Elmacaca get of your high horse about where this thread should be. I mentioned all the mpc's I'm sure, but the input I wanted was on the MPC 60 and ASQ 10. You don't grab on to context very well huh? If you were really that interested on keeping things where they should be instead of just getting up my culo, you would be on people's cases who use this as the "your Music Forum" and the sp-1200 forum, and the s950 forum. Last time I checked this was an MPC forum, and the name specifically says 60, and 3000. You got a lot of other culos to get into Elmacaca to make this forum strictly about what it's supposed to be.....including your own culo. But of course that doesn't seem to be your objective does it, or else you would mention it all the time in here. You had lots of opportunity to say things to keep this forum "pure."

that seemed kinda hostile homes.

yeah i dont kno why elm would even care to break you down on your ishy 1k after some rude bs like that. move this f*ckin thread im sick of lookin at this 1k bs. get a **** colring book to go with your 1k it will work out better. hahah the timing is to tihgt... you suck so much you cant put hits where you want wit a accurate sequencer. get this **** thread outta here. one thou with a 60. thats more of an **** combo than the one your parents made.
