£1200 for an MPC60

you could get an 808 or 909 for maybe 500 bux... but that was prolly in the 90's..now theyre $2k ...No different with MPC's, same thing.. it is 2011.. the vintage MPC60s are just gonna get more and more expensive. Especially most of them are molested, beat up and sweat on, gigged, hip hopped, drunk or blunted people around them, etc... it's harder to find a mint MPC60 than any vintage synth from the 80s... even 70s... Seems there are more more synth owners that take care of their gear, not the same as MPC owners I noticed. Or, maybe MPC are much more banged on and used in the studio as compared to synths.

In the past 3- 4 years MPC60's have been getting cheaper. When I got mine £1000 for a decent condition/fully upgraded 60 was the going rate. Even poor condition ones were going for more than the good condition ones you find now adays. I haven't seen the prices rising again. (except for the one in the op)

I never checked the completed listings on ebay for that... but 1200 pounds sounds like a lot. that would be about 1800-1900 dollars.

Yeah you have to remember it's a matter of finding one at all if you're not in the US..it's well infuriating looking at mpc's on ebay.com - ie the US market - cos they are literally half the price and there are plenty to choose from! I'm in the UK (i did ask clint first heh) At the time when i had the money together for my 3000 (money which wouldn't last long if not spent quickly!) there was literally one available in the uk that i could find on ebay or anywhere else! I bought it for £999 as it was meant to be "mint" with 3.1 chips and 32mb - but turned out to be a second one listed and without the upgrades - also with tiny damage / wear (nothing serious, pretty nice shape) so i got £150 off rather than rejecting it and ended up spending on card reader, zip drive, 3.1 chips, 16mg upgrade and mpcstuff fat pads (which are sh*t by the way). But at that point i just wanted one now! I sold a load of records to get it and it was my first piece of gear so i was itching to get my hands on it. It was worth it just to lock one down and start banging.. I like the look of the 3000 much more than the LE or i probably would have waited for one..

Never saw one over $1000 here in the US. Generally I don't even see them go over $800. But as perilousselector mentioned, those and many other vintage units are far more plentiful in the US.

I'm like a hawk on ebay.co.uk, MPCHunter and a few other places in the UK. In the past 12 months, there's probably been 10-15 MPC60's posted for sale. 6 or 7 of those were bought by me, furthest I had to travel was 120 mile round trip from London to Brighton for a near mint Mk2 which was a pleasant drive. Ended up selling that one to a fellow forum member. Most are found in London where I live.

I've never paid more than £350 for an MPC60, but by buying multiple machines I was able to acquire all the options. Two machines had SCSI, three had the 3.10 OS, four had memory upgrades, two had flightcases...you get the drift. Options that I didn't need for my personal machine/s were flipped easily. One 60 Mk1 with faulty OS chips was parted out completely and bought in £800, every single part sold except one PCB. Those parts went like hot cakes! Armrest, side panels, buttons, knobs, slider, encoders, the casing, memory, voice ROM's, floppy drive, output board, pad sensor board/ PCB, everything...

Thing is, most of the sellers didn't even advertise the upgrades so most were 'pleasant surprises'. These kind of sellers have no interest in maintaining what they consider to be an 'old sampler'. Show them some cash, and they will happily take it. I love 'pleasant surprises'.

Trying to max out a stock 60 in the UK is close to impossible by any other means.

Currently I have 3 MPC60's, ironically the best one will sell for £1200 when I sell it. Another is a Mk1 which has the memory and OS upgrades, no SCSI £TBC. Number 3 is a stock Mk2 120v which needs a floppy drive, backlight and some TLC, I'll probably sell it for £350 when I can be bothered.

I acquired two MPC60's in the last week, and a S-950 2.25mb, and a MFC-42. Total cost = £800. It's no just about having the cash, you need more than that...much more.

After seeing crazy ass prices for older gear, I've been tempted as hell to sell my 808 and 909 and get damn near $5000 total for them.
But then I start playing around with them and I get all sentimental about the drum machines then I decide not to sell them. They are like my kids to me. They've been around longer than my wife.

Juke that exactly what happened with me.

Sold the whole studio, but decided to hold back on the 'crown jewels' (MPC60 maxed, MPC3000LE maxed Vailixi, MPC4000 maxed).

I will sell them, I will sell them, I will sell, I will, I, I what? Lol

I'd better sell that 3000LE before Rohan shows up...

lol It's hard to let them go. Especially after you take them off life support with a thorough inside and out maintanence and cleaning. Plus I use my 60II every other day. I love using it! It feels like a command center for beat making.

like clint said average UK prices are £350 in a variety of configurations (not maxed, but often part upgraded).

some I've seen some so cheap I've thought of upgrading them and passing on, but being harder to upgrade than the 3000 I've not wanted to bother.

3000s don't come up at crazy low prices in UK often - got mine for £500, was in good condition too....

I'm buying cheap vintage synths and getting my tech to do them up, then selling them on - doing that with a Memorymoog at the moment.

I don't trade 3000's because the £600+ typical prices, some sellers seem to think a stock 3000 is worth £750.

some sellers will be prepared to list stuff forever at dumb prices for months until some fool buys it - very lame.

am with you on the buying and selling of 3000's

even at £600ish by the time you upgrade the RAM, sort out a flash drive, tinker with pads or possible screen replacement, sort any promlem switches/pots - you would have spent more than you'll ever get back on ebay.

its great you put so many 60's back into the wild.

sometimes I feel like I've slept on the 60. now and again I think I would be better off with a 60+ASR10 combo than with a 3000.

60's are dope, but you need the upgrades to be sitting pretty.

OS 3.10 really unlocks the machine, the memory and SCSI complete the picture.

The machine is indeed a joy to use...in a 'less is more' kinda way.
