Not just yet
Man..you are getting picky. The 3.12 OS is available from Roger Linn site...and not Akai for what ever reason. I guess you will be along to tell me why.
It reduces the MPC 3000s sequencer memory by 10% but allows the user to load stereo sounds.
Whether it bares Akai's name on it is not an issue for me. I am just wondering why it is not downloadable from Akai. Even if it was available, I wouldn't upgrade anyway.
Now, I am starting to get your point. You have invested a lot of your time upgrading the OS, even when it doesn't really need it, so you feel compelled to defend your work. I am not knocking your efforts. Do your thing. But you are playing word games again. When I mention 3rd parties, you quick to reply back that it was still developed when Roger Linn had a working relationship with Akai. I think that is BS..but let me know if I am wrong. Fact: Akai dropped the MPC 3000LE in 1998/1999 depending on which country you lived in. Those MPC 3000LEs were released with OS version 3.11. Akai cut Roger Linn out of the profits for the MPC 2000, which was released in 1997. I would say that Akai and Roger Linns relationship went south around the time the MPC 2000 was created and released. If Akai supported the 3.12 OS that is now available via download on Roger Linn's site and not Akai..why wasn't it standard on the MPC 3000LE re-released two years after the MPC 2000?? I guess their relationship was still on the border.
Is that your best one-liner to pick up women? 'C'mon lets go' will get you more women than that.
Ok..the MPC 3000s warp drive schematics is 2000 years post Captain Kirk...
but really though the MPC 3000 is an inferior sampler compared to the S3000 no matter what is under the hood.
Here you go again. The S3000 is a powerful rack mount sampler that never was intended to be a sequencer. So no, its not an MPC 3000 that is a drum machine/sequencer with an average sampler...somewhere between an S01-s1000 sampler.
So, I am saying that they have no interest in doing anything else with the MPC 3000. Its been a long time. Both parties have moved on. More complex than that?? The MPC 3000 is the last thing on their minds right about now. And no, I don't know the CEO who is running Akai, Numark, or Roger Linn before anyone asks.
Ok. So the MPC 3000 has hardware and software. By your math..I guess it means its 25% hardware and 75% software? No? So unless there is some hardware changes, there is only so much you can add with software improvements? I stand by my original statement.
Be careful how you answer. Because I will rehash this thread years later after there has been no substantial improvements to the MPC 3000 on your part or another 3rd party.
At the time I wrote this..I wasn't aware that the actual 3rd party developer was you. So now I can say, you haven't improved the MPC 3000 in a dramatic way. Again, I am not taking away from your efforts because I know you put in some time...probably more time doing that than creating any music with it. But I could be wrong though.
So maybe my post will get wheels rolling...but I suspect that the wheels are too rusted to move. Might as well get the talked about MPC 2500 or whatever they decide to call it. It should be called the MPC 3500 since there will probably be nothing that the MPC 3000 can do that it can't..minus a VGA option board.
I do know what buttons are on my MPC. The shift/power on comment was a joke...but if you hold down Sof Key 4, turn the data wheel counter clock-wise 3 times, and than hit the overdub key, the MPC 3000 will play an unreleased 50 Cent track that will not stop playing. This 'bug' can be corrected with the beta version of OS Version 3.18.
So this is not 25% hardware and 75% software related? So now..it is 100% percent software? Let me take an educated (or uneducated) guess. If Roger Linn's OS 3.12 decreased the sequencer memory of the MPC 3000 by 10%...I wonder how much of the sequencer's memory will be reduced by more fiddling with the OS? Never mind..I won't guess that at all. Now, what could be added to the MPC 3000 so that the sequencer memory won't be reduced? Different hardware or more software? Or a combination of both? My bet is on at least some changes in hardware...Processor, mother/daughter board, memory..something..
Well, I am not posting because I want to be correct. Especially for posting what is common knowledge. I realized 6 years ago not to time stretch on the MPC 2000XL. That is why it is hard for me to hold in laughing every time I read about this feature on the MPC 2000Xl and those wanting it on the MPC 1000. This technology has been around for years and has been improved upon. I am hoping that the new MPC does much better with this feature.
Mickey mouse feature? If any new sampler is released without this feature..it would be a Mickey mouse/fisher price sampler. This feature is used to create sample based music. Now, if you are efforts come up with a way to improve they way MPC 3000 users create music..I applaud your efforts. If it fixes the 50 Cent 'bug', I will applaud that as well. But if it is to add a way to save 3 MB of samples on a standard floppy disk or if the disk format screen now features a medium format function...I will pass with a 'no comment'.
Obviously, I got your attention. Arrogance? I guess you feel that way because I made what you feel are 'presumptuous claims'. I have never manifested any superiority claims. It sounds like you have 'short man' complex. I am not insulting you. This entire post came off my response to the comment made that Akai didn't create the OS for the MPC 3000 in the first place. Akai is still not a person..and if they foot the bill for research/development..yes, the entity known as Akai created the software. No matter how you play with words.
Ignorance? Because I don't know how to program the software of the MPC 3000? Or because I challenged you as a programmer to do something with substance with the MPC 3000. There is nothing wrong with my judgment. I already stated that I will be the first to sing your praise should you do the impossible with the MPC 3000. I am just a skeptic. Why? Because I have yet to see any remarkable improvements to the MPC 3000 since 1996.
I do no such thing anymore than anyone rides Roger Linn's weenie. This entire site is dedicated to Akai practically. So, I guess I am at home with weird individuals.
Akai were creating samplers at that time..but no drum machine that I know of. Playing with words again? Companies that produce products that create music are all competitors in a business sense. I do know a little somethin..somethin..when it comes to business and running/managing a business/organization. Successfully, I might add. But I am not showing off. Just making a statement.
Roger Linn went out of business. That dude was trying to sell $5000 drum machines in the 80s. Akai said..'Hey partner, you are not that bright when it comes to getting more bang for the buck, so we will supply you the tools you need to create a monster, and than sell it for nearly half the price.'
Please forgive me for being arrogant and ignorant. Almost everything all parties have said is accurate from a certain point of view. Backpedaling? I don't have to do such thing. There have been many claims in these posts. Some of them have not been achieved. I am not saying this is false..prove me wrong.. I am saying that some comments made are not very accurate. I am questioning grand claims that the MPC 3000 can be improved the way it stands today with a downloadable software update. I am saying that Roger Linn was a cool dude that helped put the MPC on the map..but didn't do it all himself. And again...I didn't create any stories here. Akai posted their history on the website but has since been updated and removed. Roger Linn has his version of the events on his website, which isn't far off from what Akai stated. We all read a Sonic State Interview with Roger Linn stating that he did the schematics/and designs and with the help of 'his' team, and a great hardware specialist, put the final touches on the MPC 60. All of this but just barely recognizing the fact that he was out of business and Akai through him a steak and facilitated the creation of the best sampling drum machine series the world has ever seen...no, I am not backpeddalling and talking Bullshyt. But thanks for putting that out there and adding something of substance to the conversation.
Peace.

The last OS released while the machine was still manufactured ( not re-issued ) by AKAI and the development relationship between Roger Linn's team and AKAI was still intact.

Correct that statement.
Roger Linn Design released 3.12 to allow the import of split disks created with and MPC60 loaded with 3.10 of his OS.
3.12 still has the AKAI name on it as the OS was released while their development relationship was on the border of being still intact and Roger had negotiated to be the provider of the updated MPC60 OS.
Anything else to date since then has been my effort, in my spare time.
Whether it bares Akai's name on it is not an issue for me. I am just wondering why it is not downloadable from Akai. Even if it was available, I wouldn't upgrade anyway.

Too much time on my hands Throwing specs at you
I could throw circuit diagrams, schematic overlays and parts lists too but to be honest ... don't see the point.

Well ... let us talk vintage and similar issue S model.
Jahrome ... same basic hardware ... different box ... different software.
The MPC 3000 mainboard is actually a little more advanced than the one in an S3000 and has an improved RAM interfacing bus architecture.
Ok..the MPC 3000s warp drive schematics is 2000 years post Captain Kirk...

It involves business models and contactual arrangments that went belly up a long time ago.

haven't found the SHIFT button on the MPC3000 Jahrome
If you're going to be sarcastic about the changes so far then at least reference your commencts against some thing of actual meaning.
Some wheels need a little push to get them rolling Jahrome.

Yep ... you're right.

Pretty damn slow on the 2000XL too when I used it last night.

Are you getting this yet ?
