MPC 60/3000 "new" storage media

Dude, Jeff this is nuts! Im waiting on my MPC 3000 to finish getting customized, and I bought the ADDONICS CF reader and a scsi converter board, but if your floppy emulator is working, I may just go with that. As CF's become rarer and rarer, I see them being fazed out for small format media like SD and Micro SD pretty damn soon. So, I have a question, and I don;t mean to derail anything, but.....do you have confirmation of it working with the Mirage and ASR-10/88?

I'm on a MPC60 MK1 2.02 and I didn't recieve it yet. I hope it is not lost between China and Belgium

Ok, I just got it. I've some difficulties to find the good way to format it on my PC. For now (first attempt), the MPC doesn't recognize the key (no disk in the drive error ff80).

There are three PDF files on the small CD:

- FU version
- TU100M version
- U100 version

It seems that Milando get the FU as his post mean "SFR1M72-GU FU". But i don't know how to find which version I bought. The only mark i found on the PCB is SFR8A16 and I can't find anything about jumpers position.

EDIT: after testing all jumper position available, i found two that give me a different message when i tried to reach USB: "This disk is either not formatted or is bad" error code: ff02

I was thinking about buying a standard version which has jumpers to select 720kb or 1.44mo. It seems I bought a 1.44mo version that cannot be changed by jumpers position. So... let's order a real 720kb floppy emulator to check it

For the future buys on e-bay (from resellers),
I suggest to get the info of drives manufacturer and model,
then contact manufacturers products specialist via internet,
& ask if it's compatible with Akai MPC 60.

I just got the SFRM72-FU (there is a sticker on it this time) and it works. Bought it for around 50$ on eBay by looking for a 720k emulator !

I put some .SND files from my PC on the USB then trying to load it. MPC60 2.02 can find the name of files but can't load (wrong version). I have the 3.10 but not yet installed, i plan to do it tomorrow.

I can't save a sound sampled on the MPC60 on the USB, i didn't find how to do it yet but the emulator keep the sound in his memory after rebooting the MPC: good news.

EDIT: i couldn't resist, i place 3.10 chips and I can load any .SND files. I'm able to read AND write sampled sound ! It is realy great !

My MPC 3000 is on the way from the US to me here in belgium. And I just read your post here concerning the USB Floppy Emulator.
Sorry if I may sound stupid, but it´s difficult for me, to stay on top of things. Cause for some people some storage solution seem to work and for other not...

Hi citizen Merlin !

I will make a simple summary of my case:

- I bought a GOTEK floppy emulator on eBay ( http://www.befr.ebay.be/itm/390358586096 )
- There was no sticker or any infos about the model on the beast but I made a lot of tests and it seems I bought the wrong emulator (not 720kb)
- I ordered another model on eBay that mention 720kb in the description but not the exact model ( http://www.befr.ebay.be/itm/300689591223 )
- Ostensibly it looks the same except it is white and there was 2 jumpers instead of one on the previous i bought and the sticker in the front that mention SFRM72-FU (like the pics on your link)
- Now, i'm able to put .SND files on a USB key, then put it in my MPC60 3.10

So basically, i think you can do the same for your MPC3000 (but pay attention, the pics are good but the description mean model SFR1M44-FU, wtf !?). Beginnings are a bit archaic but it works well.

Contact Gotec's product specialist Mr. Yan Gu ( [email protected] ), ask him.
He can recommend you compatible 1.44mb model that will fit your MPC-3000.

Thanks for the fast and clear answer. But I have one more question regarding the usb stick you can then use: As far as I know, the MPC 3000 is only able to read in several partions like 30mb or something like that.
So how much GB (MB) can my USB stick have, and how much will the MPC 3000 read/use?

Ok, Mister Yan Gu wrote back. He said that he need a few more infos to tell which model can be used with the mpc 3000.
These are the things he wanted to know:

Model of floppy driver I don´t know?
Capacity of disk 1.44M?
Format of disk Fat12?

Please correct the false answers from me.
Than I will write him back, and as soon as he answers, I will post the information here, so all MPC 3000 users now which model from Gotek they can use.

I guess fooddude was right early in this post about the size of the sticks:

Assuming it only goes to 99, it would be pointless to buy more expensive and huge memory stick, no? So maybe smaller mem sticks?

99 * 720kb = 71.28mb
99 * 1.44mb = 142.56mb

..in other words, would buying sticks bigger than 143mb be pointless and better to buy smaller memory sticks to save money?

So if 3000 uses 1.44mb (i'm not familiar with this MPC), you got the answer.
