Share your knowledge on these two classic MPCs

I'd like some MPC-3000 information for a customer of mine, and myself. I don't have a MPC-3000, but need to know this for sure for a customer.

Say you have some MPC-3000 programs and samples (.pgm and .snd) on your computer. What is the best way to get them on your MPC-3000?

My understanding is this (assuming you have a SCSI ZipDrive for your MPC-3000 and a ZipDrive attached to your computer):

-Format a ZipDisk as FAT on your computer OR Format a ZipDisk on your MPC-3000
-Put the .pgm and .snd files on this Zip
-Put the ZipDisk in the SCSI ZipDrive on your MPC-3000
-Read them in

My questions are:

-Will the MPC read all 100mb of the ZipDisk if you format it on the computer?
-When you format a ZipDisk on the MPC, how large are the partitions?
-What is the maximum size of a Partition, and do you get to choose it?
-How many files can you put on the root directory of a Partition? Is it 512?
-If an MPC can read an Akai S-1000/3000 CD, why can't it read a MPC CD? That is, if you took the contents of a MPC ZipDisk, and burn that straight to a CD, why wouldn't the MPC read this just like it would the original Zip?

No - believe it or not, it's just me (re: Air Supply or George Costanza, your pick). =)

I don't have a MPC-3000 here, and they are collectors items so they sell for a bit much for me to pick up just to answer a couple questions.

Customer on a MAC ? ( MPCPGMMAKER )

Customer on a PC ? ( MPCEDITOR / AWAVE STUDIO )

Customer's MPC3000 upgraded to Vailixi ? ( HYBRID DISK PARTITIONS ---

http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=92564&hilit=hybrid+partitions

will allow a more simplified file transfer approach ) ...

Many answers to all of your questions on this and the other forum where you posted a few days back...

Search !

Is it possible for future releases of Translator pro to convert to MPC .pgm's???

Not a registered Translator user yet, but I have Translator Free. One of the things that sux about MPCpgmaker is the 16mb limit (not with MPCeditor)

I know you have the samplerzone forum, but I just thought since it's an MPCish topic you might respond here.

Rohan - the problem is that my customer is not too smart. All this extra information would kill him. Really.

I'd advise him to get your OS (for the Hybrid thing, he has a Mac), but he'd likely be calling be non-stop on how to work it, and I don't have that time.

I did search around and I could not find complete or even close answers to my questions. The problem with searching is that the infromation is all over the place and often incomplete.

The "other place" I posted hadn't responded to my question and I searched around there and couldn't find the answer either.

Forgive me if I mised it, but I really couldn't find anything.

-When you format a ZipDisk on the MPC, how large are the partitions?
-What is the maximum size of a Partition, and do you get to choose it?

From: mpc3000v3.0manual, pg 188.

The screen warns that the hard disk’s storage space must be divided
into up to 26 partitions of no more than 30 megabytes each. These
partitions are called partition A, partition B, and so on. In each of
the save and load operations, you will be allowed to select which
partition to save to or load from.

I don't know anything else technical aabout the 3k though.

-How many files can you put on the root directory of a Partition? Is it 512?
Limitation on fat/fat16 is 512 entries in the root directory

I really can't answer the other questions even though I would if I could, sorry big dog.

3K doesn't work for me. I click 3K (formats) and then it goes back to whatever it was on :?

I did a search and can't find anyone who's successfully converted to 3000 .pgm

Has anyone done this?

I haven't heard of successful conversions of 3000 PGM. files

Works great here - I just converted a MPC3000 Zip to S-5000 format, played great in the S-5000 we have here.

Just get the MPC disk on the right side of Translator, drag to the left, when the MPC Export dialog comes up select S-5000 and click OK. Takes about 5 minutes, and its done.

If you have any questions, email [email protected] or clal 320-235-9798
