CF Partitioning, again

Hi guys, I got another CF card for my MCDISK2 (and mpc3k) and i cant remember the steps to partitioning correctly. AFAIK, i need to format it using the hybrid option to 32mb partitions, put the card in the PC without saving anything, open all the partitions and thats it? at the moment, after doing something wrong probably, i can only see one 32mb partition (29 actually) on my PC card reader.

If anybody could refresh my memory plz...

So I can only use one partition with the PC? How do i manage the sound library? can i at least move files around from the MPC from one parttion to another?

One more reason to switch to Apple i guess.

Ah yes. The old M$ decision botch up rears its ugly head again.

Switching to an Apple is over kill although the MAC implementation of PARTITION MANAGEMENT does treat removable and fixed media equally. ( some thing that M$ seem to make a distinction about for some daft reason )

How to manage a sound library in this instance ?

Cheaper than a MAC for you would simply be to get:

1: A SCSI card for your computer.
2: Appropriate cables.
3: A fixed SCSI drive in an external case.

Format the fixed SCSI drive with Hybrid Partitions using Vailixi on your MPC3000

Connect the fixed SCSI drive to the computer.

Boot the computer.

Voila !

All partitions visible.

Another option although retro is to set up a WIN98SE/WINME system which does not impose differing attitudes towards the support of removable or fixed media where partition access is concerned.

I tend to use a fixed disk for library creation and CF cards for the more portable type applications and daily access routines.

What I recommend to our customers is to use that one visible partition as a "staging area". Keep that first partition clean and only place the files on it you need to move from MPC to PC and vice versa.

In other words, as you are working on beats, samples, whatever, save them to any partition except the A partition. Then if you want to archive your work to the PC, copy the new files to the A partition, put it in your PC card reader and copy the files to your HD. And if you have PC files you want to get onto your MPC, copy them to the A partition of the card, load them into the MPC and then save them to some other partition, letting that become your permanant version.

It can be a bit of a hassle, in that you might need to make several "trips" to get the data from one platform to the other but is works and is a cheap solution.

I have two methods of operation here, i can use my powerbook G4 to copy pgm's to the CF, or do as JD recommended until i get a macbook pro in a few months time (after moving to the USA).
