I own an Akai mpc 60 mk1 with scsi option and 3.1os and until recently i only used the mpc to make music (i know really old school ).Anyway i recently bought a roland xv 5080 and an akai s 6000,the problem is though how do i connect the midi out/in from the xv 5080 and the s6000 to my mpc in order to record midi signals from the xv 5080 and playback them afterwards and how do i connect the s6000 in order to trigger sounds from the s6000 ?

I've tried the followings:

Regarding the xv 5080 i connected a midi out from a midi keyboard to the xv 5080 midi in , then i connected a midi out of the xv5080 to the midi in of the mpc (so i could record the midi signals from the xv5080) and then i connected a midi out from the mpc to a midi in of the xv 5080 (so it could playback the midi signals).

Regarding the akai s6000 , i only connected the midi in of the s6000 to a midi out of the mpc 60 so i could trigger samples.

The above set up though didn't work and i don't know what i've done wrong. If anyone know how to connect a sampler and a synthesiser-sound module to the mpc please give me some info.

I don't have a 60 I have a 3000 but as 714 said , "midi is midi".
Looks like your problem , as far as the xv 5080 is concerned , could be that you need to connect the midi out from the midi keyboard to the midi in on the 60. Then connect the midi out from the 60 to the midi in on the xv 5080.

The way I explained should make it so that when you hit a key on the keyboard , the keyboard sends it to the 60 which the sends it to the xv which translates it and plays a specific note / key. The way you have it , I don't think it will work.

I don't pretend to be an expert on midi but just try that set up. I used the same set up a few years back with an emu mo phatt , midi keyboard and my 2000xl.

your keyboard midi out > mpc 60 midi in / mpc 60 midi out 1 > XV5080 midi in / mpc 60 midi out 2 > S 6000 midi in .
