What's up guys, I've been using a 60 and 950, but I find the workflow on the 950 to be kind of tedious (particularly the key groups). I wanted to get some input from 3000 users to see if having the 3000 would allow the same sample manipulation as the 950 with a quicker workflow. Thanks in advance.

S950 can do alot of more then the 3000 in terms of timestretch, different sampling rates, low pass filter is probably alittle bit better and it's more gritty soundin.

just make a template program for the s950 that has all the mpc pads mapped out with the right settings and everything. This makes it really easy to make your programs, and i find chopping on the s950 pretty ok - a break probably takes 10-15 mins to cut up and get on the pads

10-15 minutes is pretty ok? wow!
Wouldn't it be easier to sample/chop on the MPC, resample on the S-950 and transfer/reassign on the MPC again? Looks like a lot of work to chop on the S-950 sampler, but I could be wrong. I've never used one before.

i have never really linked up the 2... i had the 950 and the 60II but never at the same place at the same time...
now i have them both... anybody know where to get the 950 manual?

and yes the 950 is crucial with the filters for that low end and the timestretch is the best i have seen... correct me if im wrong i havent used to much gear other than asr and mpc samplers...

i would have to say with the amount of money the 3000 cost the 60 and the S950 is way better... in the ears and the pockets!!!

60 3.10e=3000 w/no Vallaxi

From a workflow standpoint isnt this pretty much the case for the most part? I dont see how a 3k would for your purposes be much different. I may be off base here... anyone feel free to jump in and correct me if so.

I can't say that's a good analogy. 3000 has Effects & Filters & More Memory & Standard Storage Options. Sequencers are exactly the same to me from my comparison when I had both.

Im feeling that, but the OP is talking about keygroups and sample manipulation (im guessing chopping) being less tedious. I guess if you already have a 60, my point is.... you have a really good idea of what you will have with the 3k. (Chopping and sequencing) Taking into consideration your point though;

3k<60 w/3.10 and 950 from a sample manipulation standpoint. (950 gives a few more features i.e. Hi-Pass filter etc.)

3k>60 w/3.10 and 950 from a workflow standpoint. (loose a filter and a few other features, gain "allinoneboxabilityness")

Thats my take based on how I see it. Its give and take. Even if you go 2k or 1kjj/2.5kjj its still give and take.

cuz it aint an analogy, its scientific fact.

no fx/filters, but w/a CF in a 60 worklflow + everything but mem is the same

I just felt that my workflow was quicker when I was just working on the 60. Not having 16 levels is one of my bigger complaints. I love the sound and features of my current setup but it seemed to me the 3000 might consolidate it (with a loss of 12 bit tho). I've never used a 3000 so i wanted to see what those who owned both thought.

well, I had both for a long time I was 60/950...which is a great combo....a better combo to me is 1200/950-just to through more sand in the vagina

I went 3k, kept the 950 but just never used it. I find the 950 workflow to be super fast..chopping especially since you just copy samples quick a fiyuck and then spin the crap out of the dial to get it where you want it...

BUT..I sold the 950, the 60 and just have the 3K and my SE1x and haven't been happier, just because I don't need a big mixer or a multichannel interface...I headphone my 4 track run the stereo outs from the 3K into the tascam, 1 from the se-1x and one for my SP404... but with school and life haven't made a beat in a while, most of my focus has been on recording/mixing other peoples ish...

that's all I got, good luck, don't worry about it too much...either way it's the same old ish

fwiw my dude Adru crushes all of my shit on his sp404..

10-15 minutes to chop one break? Do you mean about one HH, one Kick and one Snare? I made it with keygroups, Loudness, pitch, filter and output assignation in 5 minutes...plus 1 minute to create empty tracks on the 60...then i'm ready to build the beat...

s950 was a little hard to me when i just bought it, but, after couple of houres practicing, i can get easier and faster my drum kit than my other Emax...more obscure to me.

some times i think about the 3000, juste because the s950 ain't got polyphony from the outputs, but as like as you said before, s950 got some cool adds...so it's ok to me.

Personally like the workflow on the Emax better than on a 900, but I didn't really get very deep into the 900 so maybe that's why. Workflow on the 60 alone is def faster than on either module, and from what I gather, the 3000 is similar in terms of workflow (never had the pleasure though). I would be pretty interested to try the 3000's filter, but probably won't have the cash to get one any time soon.

this topic is interesting.

I wanna add some crunch and 12 bit to my drums. but considering the money and the fact it uses floppies has kinda turned me off a 900/950.... can any software emulate and add that 12 bit and warmth to the drums? or maybe another cheaper sampler from back in the day...

are there any good second hand stores in melbourne to check out for equipment like an s950?
