I'm currently trying to put together a home project studio and I need some help.
So far I have:
-an MPC3000 (2 main OUTs + 8 aux OUTs) (How does this work? Can you assign a track to each respective output with each output going into their respective mixer channel?)
-a synthesizer (2 OUTs + 2 aux OUTs)
-a laptop
-speakers (stereo line IN / stereo line OUT)
-turntable (stereo RCA plugs)
I want a mixing board to bring it all together as I'm not a fan of mixing in the PC (that is, unless the PC produces a better result than the physical mixer would). OK, so my problem is one of ignorance. I have an idea of what kind of mixer I'll need, but I'll also need an audio interface to connect to the laptop. I'd like to know my options as to the direct physical relationship the AI will take with the laptop. I've seen many AI's so far, some "USB", some "firewire".
-Are there AI's that involve your PC's preinstalled soundcard (i.e. through use of 3.5 mm (1/8") stereo (TRS) plugs)?
-If so which connection is best (USB, firewire, TRS)?
Ive never worked with MIDI before. What will I need to get my MIDI operation in order?
