OK I am a drummer and believe it or not, this technology is relatively new to me. I am also a synthesist, I have a few 70s analog synths (Minimoog, Roland SH-1, and CSQ600 sequencer, Rhodes piano). I cruise the local pawn shops every now and then and am on a crash course listening to some hip-hop that my nephew plays me.
So I saw this MPC-3000 in a pawn shop and it was priced at around $600 which isn't cheap, but is still a pretty good deal. So I put it on layaway, although if the unit doesn't work, after I get it out, if I return it within 7 days it is a money-back guarantee.
So, by the time I get the MPC3k out I will have arranged my technician to look it over, and I'll need to get some factory sound disks to load it into the hard drive.
It had one floppy in the drive but came with no others, the guy told me the person who sold it to them said he didn't want anyone using his sounds. And, I tried loading these sounds into it, but listening on the headphones I heard nothing and there was an error screen that said "disc is not loaded with MPC3000 sounds" or something like that..
So I'm wondering, does Akai provide factory patches, or does Roger Linn, or where can I find a download for the 4 factory discs?
I realize this is a sampler but the manual says you have to load the sounds from disc because they're in the RAM memory and are lost every time the unit powers down.
BTW The unit is a 3.10 version. I may get into this. I never really wanted a Linndrum but this seems like it may have much, much more going for it with the sampling capability.. Also any input as to how complex the beats can get on an MPC3000 would be great.. And, is there some type of factory diagnostic check you run on this thing?
