Control the MPC 3000 via Midi?

Hi,

I like to buy an Midi-Controller with programable faders and knobs to control my MPC 3000.
What parameters on the MPC can I control with it?

Yep, you can do it via sysex. Firstly, you need to understand sysex, (system exclusive messages). Scary to some, but actually quite easy once you get the hang of it. Then you need to find a controller that allows for programmable sysex commands. Program the controller to send the necessary sysex messages to the MPC.

I used a Peavey fader 16 channel box to control the 60s internal mixer. It was cool, but mostly not worth the effort. YMMV! Normal midi commands will only allow you to do things like trigger pads and various MMC stuff.

There is some sysex info in the manual I believe, but I used one of Rohan's old posts from the yahoo 3000 group.

Found a reference to the sysex commands in the OS 2.0 manual, page 212:

Haven't found any reference in the OS 3.10 manual (except for the mention in the midi chart). I'm wondering if they still work in this OS.

Yep, I've only tested it in 3.10, works just fine.

One thing to note though, I was using a 16 channel fader box to control volumes of all 16 pads. If you make too many volume changes, ie moving all 16 faders at once, the 60 will definitely crash!! Thats not something I've seen the 60 do in any other situation. This may not be ideal for live use...

Nice! I will definitely try that. Have you experimented with any other parameter besides volume? Supposely these are the supported parameters:

Drum mixer volume change
Drum mixer pan change
Echo mixer volume change
Drum tuning change

Tried them all, though mixing was the most useful for me.
