I just put this in last night.
heres a few pics of how i did it.

Heres the new piece soldered in place. make sure to mark where your screen sits (left and right) to center the new backlight. I screwed up by about 1/16 of an inch so you can see 2 spots on the right side of the screen when the screen is lit.
all I care is that all the characters are lit.

heres the screen hinges you need to remove. pay attention to the springs and how they are installed when you disassemble.

screen removed (do this from underneath (4 corner screws on metal case underside)

the screen after new backlight.
Notice the right side dim squares, I am going to re-soldier the screen over a little more when I go to install the new underbuttons i need to install (mpc-stuff sent the wrong ones.)
BTW. new paintjob on the XL
