Need a little help

Over the last two weeks, my MPC 3000 has been rebooting itself for no apparent reason. A few days ago, I was in the middle of saving my sequences and programs to my zip drive and BAM!! The 3k rebooted, causing a @#%# load of corruption on the zip disk. Last night, I was in the middle of makin a beat and it did it again. I decided to open it up and check all the fuses and connections. The only thing I found was that somehow, the ground strap wan't attached to anything, so I went ahead and took care of that, however, it didn't solve the problem. Has anyone experienced this before ? If so, can you provide some info on what I may need to replace ? I'm good with the 3k in and out, so I can fix it myself, but I don't know where to start. In closing, I thing it may have something to do with the power supply and / or a fuse, but again, I'm not sure. Thanks in advance.

Yikes ... sounds like the power supply is futzed ...

The ground strap not being connected can cause all sorts of issues.
Any problems caused by its non connection might not be fixed by reconnection of same.
Although reconnection of the ground strap is the best move regardless of initial outcome.

Yes ... several MPC3000's down under.

Some worse than others.

Dry joints, blown or tired components ...

Check both boards in the power supply stages for dry/failed/cracked joints and re-flow/re-solder as necessary. Replace anything that is toasted with the correct parts.

Purchase a power supply from ?

Unless a machine is parted out ...

You would be better off repairing the existing power supply.

If this is some thing you are unable to do ... then sure, by all means ... take it to a tech to get fixed.
