60II Drums Channel Is Killing Me

Aight. Question. This ish has been racking my brain all weekend. Pretty new to the 60II (held down the 2KXL for 4 years) and now I'm making it the center of my studio. What I can't figure out is why the drums I have loaded play even when I'm not on the "drums" channel (channel 16). The manual says that channel 16 is the drums channel. But the drums play on every channel. So everytime I trigger my module from the 60II, I not only hear the sound from the module but I also hear the drum simulataneoulsy. I'm sure it's an easy fix but I can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.

I never used a 60 but as I read your post I thought about your MIDI connections. Is your soundmodule connected to your MPCs MIDI IN?? So there is probably a "MIDI loop". This could happen when your soundmodule has an activated option called "soft thru" or just "thru".

you should change the track to midi and not drum to play external instruments without trigger the internal mpc sound

There's a MIDI setting somewhere where you have to turn off the internal MIDI so it won't play your samples. Look it up. I had this problem when I first got a s950 and hadn't really done much MIDI stuff.

to change the drum channel just go down to the track screen and move to the right and then highlight the drum words and rotate the data wheel till it says midi

Thanks for the responses. My internet connection has been down a few days so I couldn't get this out earlier. Anyway...I completely took the sound module out of the loop so as not to cause anymore confusion to myself or those helping.

It's just the ASR-10 and the 60II. I have:

midi out 60II to midi in ASR
midi out ASR to midi in 60II

I want to trigger the ASR w/ the 60II (I know to assign the in to certain pads) and sequence the samples in the ASR w/ the drums in the 60II.

boxcutter: I can change it from drum to synthesizer (or whatever I want to name it...synthesizer is the default) but the only thing that does is play the drums I have loaded in the 60II. I can't hear any samples I have on the ASR. I have to be on the drums channel to hear the samples on the ASR but it plays the 60II's internal sounds as well.

spectre: Tried the local off option and this didn't change anything. Still having the same issue.

psoul: On the 2KXL I can change the track from drum to midi and not have any problems. But when I change the track from drum to synthesizer on the 60II I can only hear the drums and not the sample.

peterpiper: Before I took it out of the equation my module was connected through the thru on my ASR.

Still trying to figure this out and getting frustrated as sh*t. I'm gonna keep working at it. I'm sure I'll get it eventually but I've been at a work stoppage for a minute. I could pull the 2KXL back out but the 60II's sound is ridiculous. The 2KXL sounds like a toy compared to it IMHO.

Edit instrument will get you to the settings to assign what channel recieved on... Set to 1-8 respectively depending in how many instruments are loaded.
This is the midi out channel setting

Edit system midi will get you to the setting for multi, make sure that it's not on poly etc.

Edit track will set you to multi midi in channel... Do 1-8 for tracks(instruments) respectively.

Your soft thru should be off on the 60II. Midi-1

There is a setting on the 60 as well that let's you turn off "pads trigger internal sounds"

Internal notes play drums I think... Should be in midi-2.

Pm me if your still lost... I'm not in front of my gear, and ice only had the 60 for like 2 weeks.

And once you get it working don't forget to save your parameters to disk... Asr command ssymidi... Mp disk .par

Then you don't have to do that ish every tme.
