my mpc60 is fried.

... the electronics repair guy said "it's shorted to smithereens" and it needs a power supply board which isnt made any more. looks like im fukked. anybody have any suggestions other than "let the repair guy keep it"??

What happened to your MPC that caused it to get fried?

If you're asking the question whether there's a workaround, then there's no easy workaround. It's dangerous to work on power supplies if you don't know what you're doing. Send it to an expert like Forat.

The fuses should have saved the important PCB inside, but both the power PCB and transformer likely need to be replaced.

Do not let the repair guy keep it.

Repair dude is likely thinking of how he can cash in on it.

electronics repair guys arent too different from mechanics. They will keep the gear with the blown board (car with the blown motor) fix it and sell it....TAKE YOUR SH*T BACK and hit forat up. Or Armens in Manhattan. Last time I went there he had a 3000 cracked open that he was doing work on. I have dealt with Arman and he knows his Sh*t

He gives you a free estimate, so if you're in NYC take it over to him.

pickin my shyt up from him tomorrow morning. definitely trying to cash in on it. guy had it for 2 weeks already. never called me wit an estimate. i had to call THEM for info. looks like they diagnosed it and that's it. im getting it back in the same shape i brought it there in. if they try and charge me more than the estimate fee, i'm raising hell. as far as his experience. they have akai displayed on thier main web page http://www.hravinc.com/

They might be referring to Akai's consumer division from the 80s/early 90s. My favorite tape deck was an Akai one until it finally gave out. RIP 1987-2004.
