i forget exactly how wide the LED is, but with a pair of scissors, this may be a good backlight replacement alternative.

I've made replacement backlights for a few of my machines cutting EL foil, and it's pretty easy to do.

The kit I used had metal contacts to crimp through the material, so I had to laminate over the entire piece to keep everything isolated from my LCD.
