Saving VST into MPC3000?

Hello,

Quick question, is it possible to save a sequence/song into the MPC3000 using the computer as a sound source (Logic, Reason etc.) and then playing back the sequence/song from the MPC3000 once the sound source program has been closed?

This is what I have been trying to do, I will use Logic as a host for all my sounds, sequence those VST into the MPC3000, save it on disk, close Logic, load the sequence/song but am not hearing no playback

I may be doing something wrong here but please correct me

What you are saving on your MPC3000 sequencer is MIDI data - information about what note to play, when and for how long, at what velocity and on which MIDI channel (theere's more but you get the idea). No audio data is saved in this sequence. When you play it back on the MPC3000 without the external sound source active (Logic in this case), the MPC is sending out all this data about notes and stuff but there is no one there to play those notes.

I knew it was MIDI data I was sending but I thought once it was saved onto disk (zip drive in this case) it was converted to audio, but I was mistaken. So how would you go abouts doing this the proper way?

You cannot really do that on the MPC - it cannot record that much digital audio in its small sampler memory.

Here's what I do - use Sonar or Cubase on your PC and record the digital audio into your sequence there. I get my all my parts layed down correctly in midi, then one by one, I record them playing into a digital track (all other tracks are muted except the one I want to record). Once that track is recorded digitally, I no longer need the external sound module. Do this track by track until everything is recorded and boom - you have your entire song in digital audio, ready for mixdown. It's a poor man's ProTools.

I know this solution is using equipment you probably don't have but the answer to how you do this with your MPC is that ... you don't.

Awesome. I already know the meaning of tracking out in audio. This whole time I've wonder how to save a song/sequence on zip disk, guess it's not possible since it's all MIDI data. Thanks!

get an analog 2 adat converter. then you can record 8 tracks simultaneously to your daw. that saves a lot of time. of course your pc sound device should have an optical input. i got the sm pro audio converter. that shit is cheap as ****. i also got a small 6mono/4stereo channel mixer so i can put down 9 separated tracks at once. and if i want to layer some drums i got an eq on 4 mixer channels. i can also add some saturation by setting the gain of 2 mixer channels to a higher level.

in my opinion some cool stuff to work with. and it saves a lot of time.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I think I will be doing it the old fashion way of just tracking it out by analog outs.

As far as saving it onto zip disk, it's best to save the Logic session (instruments, patches) and the MPC3000 (MIDI data) with the same name
