Found an mpc3000 how to check diagnostics, etc..

Not much experience using these but I put an mpc3000 on layaway a few months ago with the understanding that I would have 7 days to return it for money refunded. The price was pretty good, I think, around $600. Anyway the layaway is coming up and I couldn't figure out if it worked when I checked it out in the first place. It had a message something about formatting or inserting a disc. There were no discs that were with it, so I couldn't check it out. I do remember that the top 2 left-hand pots were a bit loose in the case, which was cause for concern. Anyway, short of taking it to the electronics guy nearby, are there any simple power-on diagnostics tests to check the knobs and buttons and/or inputs and outputs and so on for this?

I'm not sure about doing checks on the 3000 since I don't have one. But read the manual before you get stuck with a bad 3000.
