sp 1200 anyone ?

yo guys, curious if anyones played with an sp 1200, i heard it has a built in compressor so it makes shit sound fatter, but does it have a much differant sound from the mpc 60 ?

It has a way different sound, super dirty crunchy. I don't know about a compressor but it has good analog filters, especially the lowpass filter. Shame it has such limited sampling time...

It always loses a little of the top end of the sound. So if you sample hihats or snares make sure u eq them properly before u sample them. It has some sort of compression inside yeah. The SP will make your drums and basslines sound HUGE and THUMPING...Almost all of your favorite late 80's and early 90's hip-hop classics where made on one of those. So cop one while u still can!

I both have mpc60 and SP1200.Two totally different machines.Personally i think SP1200 is 100 times better,it sounds really crunchy and is basically easy to use.Unfortunately sequences don't sound as groovy as mpc,but the sound and the way it triggers the samples is just amazing.
The top is sequencing it through the mpc,that is what i normally do.

Have u tried setting the Bpm of the SP to double. (90Bpm is 180Bpm)
That way u can set the bar length to double and still get a pretty nice groove to your sequence. Especially when u set the swing to 72%...

would that be worth doing on the mpc ?

the double tempo thing? Yes. I do it all the time. The swing setting may be to your liking as well.

The SP1200 had no compressor inside... I eared that the SP12 got it,but not really sure.
To my opinion SP1200's one of the best sampler for drumz (dem sound loudest den a MP).If you already own a MP and you're a "Drumz Head" go for it!It's an ill combo

it probably compresses the audio but not in the way a typical compressor does, but like an MP3 is a compressed file. it does change the sound in a good way on the old emu's though. The Sp 12 has is based on the emulator II so if you want the sound minus sequencer on the cheap, the EII or the Emax gets really close.

Hell yeah, all the time! doubling the tempo helps the Quanitze function have a greater resolution. You do also need to double the bars most of the time. You could just turn Quantize off, but I like this technique a lot.

Yeah, Elmacaco, you're right!! I've been using this technique since Atari w/ Cubase!!!Especially when doing a reggae beat .

But I still prefere to pilote it from MPC sequencer,that is the top for me!The best from both worlds!

I got a SP1200, it's the sh!t, the SP1200 got enough sample time for me, it's sounds the way i want > oldschool, crunchy drums, i use it for everything, sampling, sequencing, mixing, editing etc.,

well...it's THE sh!t, (IMHO)
