mpc3000 error FF02

Can any one help me? I'm trying to upgrade the OS on my mpc3000 and I keep receiving the FF02 error. Currently the OS is 3.08 and it will not read any of my disk or recognize the zip drive.

I assume you are trying to "upgrade" via booting a floppy disk containing the OS file ?

Which OS are you trying to temporarily boot into via floppy ?

An error of FF02 may mean you are using a bad floppy disk and/or the MPC3000 floppy drive might have dirty heads.

It sounds like you may have two issues going on...

You said the 3000 can't recognize the zip -- are you using a SCSI Zip drive? If it is a SCSI Zip drive and the IDs are set properly then you may have blown the SCSI fuse.

If the floppy drive can't read any disks at all -- then check the cabling to make sure everything is plugged in properly. If everything is plugged in properly, then the floppy drive might be bad. You can try one of those floppy drive cleaners but they are often hit or miss and not a long term solution.

Internal SCSI Zip drives and some card readers are not that much more expensive than an OEM MPC 3000 floppy drive. It may make more sense to migrate out of using floppies unless you already have an extensive sample library on floppy disks.

If you are trying to "upgrade" the 3000 OS to 3.11 from 3.08 with a floppy, keep in mind that booting from a floppy does not flash the internal ROMS -- it only loads the OS into memory until the MPC is powered off. You would need to replace the EEPROMS on board to make it permanent.
