Internal Zip switches the mpc off???

i installed an internal iomega100 zip this way:

seems to work good (the mpc sees the disk and loads files etc.)
but there is one problem:

when i eject the zip disk the mpc reboots with the startup screen (its like when you turn off and on the mpc).
what i am doing wrong?
perhaps wrong zip settings? termination on or off? which id?

ok, i tried all id settings and termination.
i leave it at id6 and termination "on".

i think it has something to do with the floppy powercable?
i use the same powercable for the zipdrive as for 3,5" diskdrive.

I was just about to say that Termination on and it should match the ID of the device(zip)

I was looking at that on the MPC3000 site a new connector saw made for the zip from the old floppy connector..but it seem to work there.

Does the Zip and Floppy consume the same amount of power?

i dont know?
i noticed that the guy from mpc3000.com uses not the same cable to power up the internal zip. he used a 2nd cable connected to the internal powercable. i think this should be the problem.
but how can i solve this?

I believe he spliced the cable..but you have to make sure the wire are hooked-up right. There is a ground ,12V, 5V not sure the specs..they also could be plus or minus. I would PM MPC3000le (Rohan). He's very helpful.

know what the hell they are talking about.

When I went from 2kxl floppy to zip250 I never had that problem.

Me too when i put a zip in my 2000xl I had no problem. The MPC3000 is older and a little quirky I guess

Do you have a 4 Pin Molex connection?

So the zip drive does work, outside the MPC...i think it may be a power consumption issue. I really want to know what this is because i plan on making the same upgrade. How does the zip get it's power inside of the MPC?

the same thing with the molex connector.
for me its useless cause the zip drive spinns (very noisy) the whole time (even when everything is loaded) and when i eject the disk the mpc switches off and on (and off course the internal memory is gone...)

i didnt think this would be so tricky to put a fvcking zipdrive in the mpc :lol:

I can understand your frustration. I don't have a schematic of the 3000. I tried to get one thru the wanted gear but it's hard to come by or people are just not giving it up.

So you didn't do any splicing of the MPC's floppy power connector? I trying to figure it out..i'm leaning towards once again a power issue.

Are you sure the zip drive works properly? Mine isn't that noisy. If something is shorting out inside the zip drive it could draw too much power from the MPC causing it to shut down.

When you spliced together the power cable, were you careful not to break any of the stranded wires -- if you break too many of them, it may not allow enough current to draw to the drive.
