internal zip-drive in S1000 like in my MPC 3000?

I´ve installed a internal Zip-Drive in my MPC 3000 without any hassle. Even with the linn SCSi modifikation I installed a internal Zip in my MPC 60. Nearly no problems.

Now I have a new piece in my vintage-park. A good old 1988 Akai S1000 with OS4xx, 8MB, SCSI Connector and weak backlight! The Christmas Present to myself.

Is it possible to replace the floppy-drive with a internal Zip or Jazz?
Other question: what kind of ram-memory I need to expand to 32MB. Maybe somebody have

Does the SCSI card in your S-1000 have the internal connector? If it does, then it's just as simple as hooking up the drive to the card. If it doesn't, you need to purchase the appropriate connector from a electronic parts supplier and solder it in.

As for the RAM, the RAM is in an Akai proprietary format -- not sure if http://www.masterbits.de/ still sells it, but you may also be able to find some on eBay.

the only deal is if you scsi card has a port on the inside every card has a spot for it just some dont have it so youd have to get down and dirty and solder it in( which i did) all you need is a 50 pin through hole connector

Yes. Infact it's easy. Although I have an S1100 I gotta assume they're identical except for some expansion cards among which the SCSI interface is one of course, but if you have it in the 1000 it should be the same as I have.

Use the power cable from the floppy drive and use a regular internal scsi cable for the zip. Just make sure the ID doesn't collide with whatever default ID is set for the sampler itself.

Edit: saw the post above mine now, sounds strange but I guess it might not be as straightforward then. Oh well, for me it was.

Having said that though, I don't recommend any internal scsi devices at all.. stick with an external zip or a hard drive instead, you might well need that floppy drive at some point. Them external drives also seem a bit easier to obtain.
