double density floppies suck!!!

is it just me or are floppies one of those things that SUCK. originally i didnt mind floppies because it helped me keep my files organized and what not. but lets cut to the chase...corrupted disks/files. iv had handfulls of disks where when i try to load up beats or drums iv chopped i cant because either the floppy is corrupted and when the whole floppy isnt then theres a couple snd. files missing and my beat is missing pieces or drum sounds are. dont get me wrong i love my mpc60 but the floppies are a real time killers and are really beginning to get on my nerves. i dont have scusi so external drives arent an option and i dont have the money to be spending on an internal card reader. as much as i hate to think about selling my mpc60, im contemplating it. sorry just felt like venting. peace

Are you using new floppies, or re-using old ones? Where/how are you storing them? When you get the corrupted SND files are you loading them individually or all at once?

im using old/new disks. ironically enough the new ones(generic brand) are the ones that corrupt more often. the old ones corrupt aswell. i dont know where to purchase new old stock dd floppys in my area. i store them in floppy containers ( diskbank) when i get the corrupted snd files. iv had it where i load a program and the program cannot load because of a corrupted file. and it also happens when i load them individually. im aware if you keep the disks by your monitors it can damage them. but i have them a couple feet away.

I recently had a bunch of files on generic floppy disks crap out on me.
I will probably stay away from generic media from here on out.

The only dd floppies that have been the most reliable for was a couple of new boxes of 3M floppies I found when I was moving. Still going strong for 5+ years (knock on wood).

I always make backups with omniflop on my pc. So if you still have a build in floppy drive on your PC I recommend to do this. It only takes a minute to do this but will save the hours of work you did.

Hey klassik,

Use a Floppy Drive Head Cleaner to clean the heads and make sure to use new Disks Only. If you are using used disks they could be leaving residue on the heads and causing write/read problems. When did you start having this issue? Did you finally clean the pads/buttons? If you unplugged any cables go back and double check the connections, there could be a loose cable that could be causing the issue.

iv had the issue since iv been using floppies. the funny thing is the link i have on new disks(generic brand) are the ones that crap out the most often. i can only get my hands on used floppies unfortunately. i cleaned the pads and buttons and everything went smoothly. no issues with anything. all the connections are in tact and everything is plugged in. these floppy issues are realy making me contimplate selling the 60. i love the sound and hate to see it leave but this just kills my work flow and re doing work over and over is a huge pain. if i had more cash i would sell the 60 and pick up a 3000. i love the sound and chopping by numbers but this is just a headache. im realy starting to consider going back to the 2000xl and picking up an s950

Get SCSI, you won't regret it..

Watch out with the diskdrive cleaner stuff, its brutal and destroys ur drive faster then normal use if you over do it.

fair enough but i think the issue is the disks. the drive seems to be working 110%.
