The thing is all of the pad bank indicators lights are on including the full level and when pressed they show no response. As this is my first mpc and im not familiar with it, i need to know if its a dud or im not using it properly?

Hey

Check that the 'Stereo Volume' knob on the top left hand corner is turned up at least some of the way.

Now you know you have do assign a sound to a pad not just load in the sounds - (hit the PROGRAM/SOUNDS key and work from there)

Also - this is key - when you press the pads - do you see anything change on the display at all - look carefully.

Finally - what you can do is try sampling a sound and then assigning it to a pad. Plug an ipod or something in one of the input sockets and then follow the instructions in the manual on how to sample. Its possible that the sounds youre trying to load are not properly formatted (Akai 3000s need SND files). But if you take the sample yourself - then you won't have this problem.

I appreciate you want to play with your new toy straight away - but do try and find a copy of the manual and read it at least once. I'm going through the steps I took when I got an mpc 3000 off ebay and it turns out there was a problem with the unit.

Once you can identify what the issue is - check out mpcstuff.com for parts if you want to fix it yourself.

yeh i tried sampling and then assigning the sounds to the pads but the pads dont register at all, ive been going back and forth over the manual all night. The fact that i cant even select the bank seems odd, all the lights are lit up and none of them respond to being pressed including the full level. What would i be replacing if i were to fix it anyway?

i'm no technician.., but you can often read in this forum that you must check first if all is well connected inside the machine, the ribbons etc, especially when all the lights are lit up.

and sampling still works ??!?

Ok switch off the mpc 3000 - disconnect it - and take a look on you tube for some videos showing how to open it up - you need to make sure you remover the correct screws.

Before you start replacing stuff - check all the connections are good.
