2000XL+S950=MP60??? (help)

Hi,

I usually work with a MPC 2000 XL, but few times ago, i realised that the sound wasn't like i wanted: i like deep and powerfull sound.
So, lot of people told me that i should get a S950 to get a better sound with my samples, and then, sequence it with my MPC 2000 XL with MIDI.

But, i think that when you use S950 in midi, you can't have the same dynamic and groove than when the sound comes from the MPC. Furthermore, the S950 is really heavy and big, and i don't really know how to use it for the moment.

So, maybe it's better for me to get only a MPC 60 which has the same sound that the S950 (?) and a great dynamic.

nah stick with the 950, it has way more sound editing options than the 60. plus the 60 has a fixed sampling rate.

heres a trick I use: eq the drums before you sample them

turn the bass all the way up and hi all the way down on kicks
turn the hi all the way up and bass all the way down on hats
and turn both down and turn up the gain on snares

If I were you, I'd try to get hold of one of the Akai rackmount samplers whose format the MPC 2000/XL can read, such as the S1000. Back in the day I used to make all my beats by sampling first on the S1000, then saving the sound to disk, and then loading it into the MPC 2000 (its worth noting that for the purposes of what you're trying to do, there is no difference between a 2000 and an XL). No file conversion necessary, sounds load up just the same as if you'd sampled them on the MPC. You can edit, sequence, filter.. whatever. No messing around with midi required. And it all sounds way deeper/louder/fatter etc than then same sound sampled directly into the MPC.

Not sure if the MPC 2000XL can read S950 format however? Maybe give it a try!
