Tracking Beats(mpc 3000)

So iv begun tracking my beats and im having a slight bit of confusion as far as the volume per track and what not. il expand... so say i got output 1-kick 2-snare 3-hihat 4-sample. in the mixer setting you can adjust the volume of each track. but i can also edit the volume of each seperate sample in the sample edit section. sound-6. does it matter where i edit the volume? also how should i have the volume set for each sample. i assume i want them as high as possible without them clipping and then i can adjust each tracks volume in the daw?... also what should the volume of my mpc be while i track out? 1/4 up?1/2 up? iv heard of people mixing their tracks to meet the volume of the metronome befor they track out to leave enough headroom for when it reaches the daw. any insight of information would be greatly appreciated thanks.

adjust volume in the mixer window
if you adjust in the sound menu, you have to resave the sound to save the volume level
which takes mad time.
if u just adjust in the mixer, u can save the program without resaving sounds

good call. alright but how do i know how much to turn down tracks or turn up? i cant read the levels on the mpc...it only displays visual values.

If you really want to test it, check the levels going to tape (or to your DAW). Your DAW should have a meter as any half-decent tape machine. See how much one notch on the data wheel equates too. For really accurate results, you will need reference tone possibly to line up with your converters if they have user input gain.

alright but in order for me to do that id have to figure out at what level the main output volume should be set at...no?. i assume there is a certain amount it should be turned up for when tracking out. anyone? thanks!

No, not really. You don't say where you are tracking to. If its DAW, you'll have PPM and RMS meters. If its tape, you'll most likely have VU. That's where you can get a quantifiable reading from.

There's no right place to set the MPC. Just don't track too hot going to tape.

ah sorry Shostakovich i thought i mentioned what i was tracking to befor. im tracking to a roland vs1880. and im not sure what ppm and rms meters are. il have to look into it. thank you for your insight an droppin the knowledge. i guess this all takes time to find ur niche
