ASQ10/MPC60 Floppy question

Hi folks, my first post here an maybe a simple question but so far have not found the answer. I have an ASQ10 which as we all know runs on DD disks. Everyone says that you get problems if you try using HD disks with the hole taped over. What im tryna figure is if this is due to the drive or the actual machine (ASQ/MPC).
IE If I was to get a HD floppy drive to work in the ASQ with the correct jumper settings would I then be able to use HD disks without problems or is it as I suspect, something to do with the actual ASQ that only handles DD format?
I just figure it would be an easier life spending a couple days getting a new drive configured than hunting down DD disks every time I run out.

The drive controller in the machine is what determines the format. Not the drive.

You can format HD disks as DD and use them in the machine. However they can become unstable and you could lose your files.

There are always lots of new DD disks for sale on eBay. One seller has a lot of 50 new disks for $22 shipped if you are in the US.
