I just wanted to report that I successfully replaced the backlight on my mk1 60 yesterday - I haven't seen as much info on doing this for the mk1 so I though it might be useful for someone.
I used this cutable EL panel from glohut.com: http://glowhut.com/cuttable-a6-size-el- ... ligh6.html
It's a nice plain white and is the perfect width - it has to be cut horizontally in half, so it could be used for 2 backlight replacements. The job wasn't too hard, just disassembled, removed the lcd bezel, desoldered the old back light, cut the new one to size and slipped it under the lcd, resoldered, reassembled, done.
I bought a mk2 to take the scsi card (which is now working in my mk1) so I'm going to replace the backlight in that one too and resell it. My 60 is really sweet now.
