MPC 60 Saving/Loading Problems

My MPC 60 wont let me save or load (whichever one is the problem). I made a sequence, something quick and easy just to learn the principles and basics, and after saving it according to the wise instructions of the manual, I took out the disk and shut off the MPC just to make sure it would save and load correctly. After I loaded it from the floppy the name of the sequence came up but when I tried to play it nothing happened.

After this happened, randomly, my bass drum sound got this error message when I tried to load it, "This file is internally corrupt and can't be loaded. Its internal type ID doesn't match its 3 letter name extension."

Does anyone know what's happening or how to fix or get around this, it's tremendously frustrating.

I know this sounds silly, but it could be a dust problem in ur drive, take one you dont care about and format it. Then try to load the other disc. Also you will need to save a sequence and a program with sounds to be able to play back ur beats.

I was thinking you could have a faulty or dying floppy drive, after all an original part will be over 20 years old.

If nothing else works, open the machine and check the connections are sound.

Does the floppy LED come on, do you hear any noises from the drive??

where did you get the disk?

also what is the exact name of the file you are trying to load? I think early OS versions on the 60 used a file called .SET where as I think they got rid of that in favour of .pgm...

mr_debauch the file name is .SEQ. And the disk(s) I've been using have either been wiped clean to fit what I want on there or just laying around for quite some time (probably multiple years).

And clint246clint the LED does come on and the drive makes noise when it's loading the disk.

I'm thinking it has to be something to do with the floppy drive since I've tried other floppy disks and they did the same thing. Either that or the disks I'm using are shady. But I'm really unfamiliar with the drive and any ways of fixing it so I'll definitely refer to that "Bible" thread.

yeah maybe that is it... these things are old now O.o

I dont know what to suggest except maybe try to load each thing manually one by one... like load up each sound manually etc... maybe you could salvage something if it actually lets you load something.

I'll be trying out the suggestions you guys gave and see what happens.

on kaliimeh, which lines do you mean? I didn't put any vocals in there so it has me curious because half that song was recorded on a zoom H4 portable recorder in an abandoned hockey arena.. hahaha... so maybe something wound up in there that I didn't notice lol.

So I'm trying to load a disk that has sound 001 on it....it loads, it's a kick drum. As i change disk to load a sample (i did notice the original sample before i edited the sound was also sound 001,I changes the name accordingly to sample & put the sound on a different disk) I load it & the pad plays the kick drum sound!?!? so now I'm going thru all my disk to find any sounds that have similar numbers & when I try to load them, which ever sound is loaded 1st becomes the dominant sound why is this & how can I avoid this? even changing the sound name does nothing!!! please help

change the sound name, remember to push enter after... then delete the original from the disk and save the new one in the place where the old one was.

tried the whole name change thing & erase + edit sound(OS ver 2.12)! But still the same deal, the 1st sound loaded take dominance & i also notice in the edit field though i assigned 2 different sounds the edit field for each drum says sound001. so even though they've been renamed, they appear to still be the same data to the MPC 60???? I'm,@ my wits end!? pls help!

Did you ever try to format a disk? This might temporaly 'clean' ur drive.

Nevamind...my wit & words from the forum helped. In the sound edit field i renamed the sound & it worx now. before i was going to disk function pressing 6 and trying to rename that way....That dosnt remedy the problem. sound edit field is where the name change should be done!
