With these new (excellent) Fat Pads for the 1000 and JJ, the gap between a 1000 and 2500 is basically only form factor and 2 more Q-Links. You could save anywhere from $300-$500.

I really love the 3000 and hope to get one. I really like my 5000. I know it's kinda the red headed step child around here but it's a nice piece of gear IMO. All the above mpc's are also nice.

There are also 8 mix outs and 4 Midi outs on the 2500. But I do recommend the MPC 1000 also, if those things aren't an issue. I liked the 1000 I had, but I had to flip it to make some $.

It'd say try out the 1000 and if you're good with the smaller format of the pads get JJOS and run with it.
Otherwise 2500 with JJOS.

yeah you can go with a 1000. But I would personally get a nice new computer because you have so many more options when using a computer as opposed to the MPC... You can use the computer for your vsts and to trigger your sample chops in battery... Definitely have much more freedom with a PC... Just buy a computer strictly for making music. I just purchased a Gateway desktop with an i5 quad core processor, 8GB of RAM and 1TB hard drive for $599.. This thing is ridiculously fast.. I can have like 15 VSTs running at once without even a slight loss of performance..

Well you already have a 16 bit machine...
So how about some 12 bit crunchiness, MPC60 or an S-950 will give you that.
But to complement the 3000 and bring it right up to date the 4000 wins on features.
I suppose when you decide which features you want to compliment the 3000 the choice will become clearer.
