I'm getting the 3000 pretty soon and I'm looking for some general info.

I'm gonna want an external zip drive (SCSI) for the MPC, and an external zip drive (USB) for my Macbook (at least to save and upload PGMs and SNDs). Does that sound about right?

I know RS-16x can change the extension on .wavs so they can be processed in the 3k; but, what program would I need to format Zips to MPC?

Also, I know 3.5OS seems to be sweet as all hell, but -- I'm sure everyone knows about the deal with Rohan. Does anyone have any 3.11 OS information? Also, if I can't cop 3.5, is the 3k still the wonderbeast with 3.11?

zips are no good.. i highly suggest avoiding those altogether... also, look in to a scsi CF reader.

Zip drives can develop issues over time rendering the drive useless. The media usually is fine so if the drive develops the "click of death" then the drive needs to be replaced. Some people have better luck with them than others, it's your call if you want to use that format. I have a zip drives installed in a couple of machines, but it's no big deal to me if I have to replace the drive as I have spares.

A more elegant solution is the card reader format, but it gets pricier. There are a large number of threads on this forum discussing card readers and the MPC 3000.

It was the last software revision released by Roger Linn/Akai for the MPC 3000. It works fine for most people. Rohan fixed a few quirks and added some features to Vailixi which makes the MPC easier to use

The list of features posted on his website:

Whether or not you need these improvements is up to you and your workflow.
