Checking to see if your zip drive is working correctly

today I got a 100mb zip drive for my 3000 and I seen in a video where a guy said sometimes the cables that come with the zip drive are not the right cables...

I ordered the right cable already just incase but Im still curious to see if the zip drive I brought today works with the cable it came with...can someone guide me through this?


p.s. I ordered zip disks aswell so I don't have any on me

make sure you turn on your zip drive first, then afterwards you turn on the mpc

the mpc wont see it if it is turned on before the zip drive....may even blow the scsi fuse...

when the mpc starts you will see it searching for scsi on boot up

you will have to format the disk with the mpc before using it

First of all thanks a lot for your replies I appreciate it.

I do see when it's searching for scsi when I boot up but I don't think it found the zip drive because it searched for some odd seconds and then it just went to the main screen on its own...and I don't have zip disks yet to test it out...I will just have to wait until my zip disks come in

It wont work untill you have a zip disk inserted.
Zip drives usually have a switch to set SCSI id. Set it to "5" and then make SCSI id 5 the active drive on your MPC. That way you dont need to scan all SCSI id's on boot.
