how to check if s950 has scsi

Hey, can anyone tell me how i can know if my s950 is able to use scsi drives without open that thing up?

on the back der is an scsi slot

If you have a SCSI port and digital in you should have SCSI.
If you do not have SCSI there will be a blank panel where the scsi port/digital in should be.

BUT you can have the SCSI card installed but be unable to use it cause AFAIK it needs OS ....I forgot the OS version number.

Thank you! Unfortunaly I dont have it, but I think it is not as important as an mpc60 scsi upgrade either way.

Can anyone tell me how long i takes to load a full DD disk from SCSI? is it a noticeable difference in loading time compared to the floppies?

I thought DD disks were floppies (double sided ,double density) ?

How are transfer times compared to floppy loading/saving ?

My sentence was wrong. I meant if there is an difference between the scsi option and the floppies.

I am also interested in the S950 RS-232 stuff.

I am somekind of tired hoping everything gets loaded right from the floppies again when i start the mpc the other day...

There is a noticable difference in loading time between SCSI drives and floppies, but since the S950 only has 2.5mb(at most) your not waiting long either way.

My S950 only has 1.5mb , so I can fit the entire memory contents on one floppy(almost).
Why not buy a pack of new floppies and you wont have to worry so much about failures ? The S950 can read/write HD (1.44mb) floppies, unlike the MPC60. They are still easy to find

There's also those floppy drive emulators that take USB memory sticks. You might want one of them for your S950 and MPC if you can't get SCSI.

is it faster to load from a floppy emulator than loading a regular floppy?

With some of them, yes. I think those Hxc ones load at the same speed but I could be wrong.

okay but how much faster is the fastest emulator solution compared to loading a floppy?

and how long does it actually take to load a floppy on an mpc60 with scsi installed?
is it like 5 to 10 seconds or just about 3/4 of floppy loading time?

it is so expensive and difficult to get, that i need to know this before putting to much energy into this thing

Same as without SCSI installed.
SCSI ihas nothing to do with the floppy drive.

my english was too bad to be precise,
I actually meant, how much time it is needed to load from scsi (compact flash drive or so) on the mpc 60 with scsi installed.

I thought of virtual floppies on the scsi drive, but perhaps it is organized differently.

SCSI 1 bandwidth = max 5 MB/s

Thats the raw specification. It does not necceserely tell you how the bandwidth is on the specific Device (in this case: s950)

Another thing about the s950 floppy format: Never try to put more than 63 samples on one floppy disk. Your machine will freeze and only wake up when you turn it off and on again.

I'm pretty sure that a year or 2 ago someone posted the time it takes to load files from DD floppy and SCSI zip or something but I cant get the correct search terms to find it.
