The $50 MPC 60

Hey, I'm a 2kxl user, but a friend of mine called me this morning from a yard sale and said they had a 60. He got it for me for only $50. I gotta go pick it up now....I hope it works. If it doesn't where should I try to get it fixed?

Most likely it is too good to be true. I don't see how, in this day and age, someone wouldn't just find out the value of an item before they sell it. A simple web search would have showed them that the item was grossly undervalued.

But yeah, no doubt, let us know what the deal is with that.

true, but garage sales are like that, people too lazy to go to any trouble and are just like f it, I'll throw it out here if anyone wants it

I bought alot of good stuff on the humble like that.Every Sunday in the classified section of the local newspaper storage places run ads for stuff that they have taken possesion of and they sell it like a yard sale.I went one day and came up on about 20,000-30,000 records needless to say I did not buy all of them but they did let me sift through them and pick out some stuff I walked(rather ran)away with about 400 records for $20 bucks.The owner of the place said that she would sell me all of them for a stack but I did'nt have the funds I called a record dealer friend of mine and he came and bought them all.If you want good deals on stuff look in the classifieds and then look under public notices and estate sales and auctions.I picked up about $20,000 worth of snap-on and matco hand tools and equipment for $1500 from a car dealership that was going under.The vast majority of people don't have the patience for ebay sales and the internet.

i go to the thrift store down the street almost everyday, all the records there are from 50 cents to a 1$

Here we go....as far as I can tell it works. Cosmetically it's a little rough, the side panels are gone and there are scratches etc. I turned on the power and it works, but the screen is dim. I've heard that's common with the 60 though. Now, I have no sounds to load up on the pads and even if I did I don't think I would know how to right off the bat. I don't see a program button like the xl where you can assign sounds to pads. I have no manual yet, but I will print one up at work. I did manage to hook a synth up and sample a quick note to see if that worked and it did, but then I couldn't figure out how to assign it to a pad. I need some drum hits and a manual and I think I will be in business with this piece. If anyone wants to help me out with this....please do!! I have no clue what I'm doing with this thing, but I do know my way around the xl.

Go here http://www.akaipro.com/int/download/archive_om.html to download the manual so you can get started.

When you see how everything is working and if you have the dough, you can send it to Forat and get it hooked up completely and still be ahead of the game.

to assign a sound to a pad press the sounds button and hit program.

It should be like that even on the old OS.

You can get the backlight fixed pretty easily, and also possibly get a slidercap and endcaps from Forat.

damn i wouldve paid 50 bucks even if i knew it didnt work, just to have one laying around the lab. like a decoration
