how to sample digital drums from computer without noise?

Finally im a new and prode owner of a mpc 3000 and must say it is true that it makes ur drums hit harder and add a tad of color to them, yes this is 100 percent true. NOw to my question. I have tons of drums on my computer that I wanna sample into the 3000 but as soon as I hooked up a 1/8 to 1/4 inch cord I heard alot of noise. I tested the outs of my motu ultralight as well and there was also lots of noise in the input I was sampling in. I tested my record player and everything there seemed fine just normal record pops and nothing else. So what could be making all the noise coming from my computer and what are the solutions?

i suggest plugging in your mpc to a different circuit from the pc... try a different plug across the room or something.

are we talking about a laptop by any chance? if so, unplug it and run it off the battery while doing the sampling.

Yes it is a macbook. What would unplugging its charger really do?

it might stop the interference .. just try it.

okay, so... with the ultralite, are you using the firewire for powering it? if so, try using the adapter it comes with instead (when it is plugged in it will automatically switch.. as it goes with the power source that is higher)

if that doesn't fix it... is there another machine you could connect the ultralite to make sure it is actually that laptop that is causing the issue?


last but not least... can you turn off the wifi? sometimes that has been known to cause interference in audio .

? What kind of cable exactly? The ultralight has 1/4 TRS outs and the MPC3000 has aalso 1/4 TRS Input. So I dont understaand what cable you used.

but with the circuits i have also heard of...

when i sample from my 2500, which i use as drum lib, into my 3000, i always sample some noise... finally i surrenderd... this niose is now part of my music...

Im using trs I believe from my iltralight to the 3000 and I sampled about 10 sounds that all had the noise and had to put a heavy decay ay the end of each sound just to lighten the noise. I know noise is sometimes a iasue with analog but this seems to be.to much and when I layed a patteren down the entire loop was noisy. Im sure after dumping in a daw a gate would help even more but I would rather sample clean the first time

i have an ultralite, and I use 1/4 cables to go from out 7/8 to the record ins on the mpc (any of my mpcs) .. I dont get noise

what ultralite are you using? the mk3 hybrid with USB, or the firewire ones?

Yes mk3 ultralight. But like I said I tried a 1/4 live advantage instrument cable from my motu and I just checked the other plug which is a 1/8 to tip ring cable coming from my laptop heahphone jack into my mpc. Both ways have the same amonut of noise and dnt understand why cause I sont have noise coming out my moniters when there hookes up nor do I when I put headphones into the laptop. Seems like it only appears when anything outputing from my computer into my moc

yes ^ I run everything through a furman conditioner..


and for the filter, I can recommend uniquelizer... they have the 50/60 hz filter as a preset .. and it also does it's harmonics if you choose to with the click of a button

Just to make absolute sure: You tryed it with TWO TRS cables going from the two outs of the ultralite to the two ins of the MPC without any adapters in between right?

If this is true then check the input setting of the MPC cause it could be a wrong gain staging. AFAIK the 3000 got a switch with 3 different settings. Use the low setting. Then turn up the output of the ultralite as far as possible (always play the source you want to sample as loud as possible). Then use the racgain knob of the MPC to set a good sampling level.
