I brought in a couple tracks for mixing and mastering at this studio. And I realized that one track was made with the 60, and the 2 others were on the 2000XL. So I ask the guy, "did you notice any differences, obvious or subtle differences in terms of the sound you hear from track to track?" and to my surprise, he said a a resounding "meh.. not really?"

then when I told him why I was asking and told him the 60 was 12bit, he did mention that on his meters, he noticed the track from the 60 had whole bands, or something to that effect, *MISSING*.. but by ear, he didn't notice any difference.

interesting...

That is interesting. I guess bands are missing because the 60 only samples to 40khz while the 2000xl is 44.1khz perhaps? I'm still a novice in these areas anyway.

I don't know, it's kind of like comparing apples and oranges. You produce 2 different beats on two different machines and expect someone to immediately tell the difference? I could understand if you produced the same beat but on 2 different machines the difference would be a lot more obvious. Now that would be an interesting comparison.

EQ could play a role as well.

yah, I see what you're saying, the difference would be more obvious if it was the same beat.. but from all the talk about how 1 sounds warmer than the other, and the other sounding more tinny etc.. I just thought an engineer would hear the difference right off the bat.

there really isn't a difference then...
