If you want crazy gritty sounds cop you a Yamaha Su700(I believe thats the model)I played with one the other day(not to mention I used to have one)and the bad boy can make anything sound grimey. When you sampling in to it it gives options on 8 bit 12 bit and 16 bit and you can choose the sample rate. It's also a damn good loop sequencer.Works perfect for DJ's and people that have mastered the concept of BPM and how its related to sampling loops.Just sample and loop you a nasty drum break get a nice bass loop going add a melody loop and bam you got fire.It also works good to just use as a sampler and then sequence with the MPC.It can also hold up to 64mb of sounds which in mono mode at 8 bits at a low sample rate equates to a long time...This unit goes for $100-$200 all day long.Buy you one...I know I am...

My boy has one with all the options on it. (SCSI, Output expander, Full ram...etc) He is looking to sell it. Its fully blown so it will sell for more than just a couple hunnit tho. Ive seen the output expander go for $150 on ebay by itself. I played with it for a week or two. You definately wanna sequence it with your mpc tho, cuz the sequencer sux. Effects are nice tho. All in all its a nice lil unit. I wont comment on the grimey part tho. People seem to have differing opinions on what is grimey and what isnt. For example my boy was telling me how he uses a flanger to make his stuff grimey? I listened and it just sounded like ass.... nothing grimey about it...lol.

Peace...
