trouble opening up a 60II

ok i'm trying to open up this recently acquired custom 60ii, but having some trouble.
i unscrewed the back, side, bottom front screws & the four top panel bolts. the hood only pops up like 2 inches, i also noticed the screen, pads and buttons all seem attached to the hood?!! how to open up this damn thing???

Grab the sides, pull outwards a little, then lift up gently.

I don't think so.

No need to touch the 4 top panel allen head bolts

Remove The Screws in the back, The screws on the sides and the screws on the bottom front that hold the top casing to the bottom casing..
Lift up slowly on the front and tilt it backwards to stand the casing vertical on its rear right behind the back of the bottom casing..

No, just the ones holding the Top Casing to the Bottom Casing.

ok done! i can see the marion scsi interface is there but can't seem to find the ram location?

now to the more complicated part, i want to change the backlight, how to access the screen?? also i can't seem to remove the pad panel even with the 4 allen bolts removed (need to change pads as well!)

The Ram is located to the left of the scsi. check the example pic. This one says MPC60-MEM yours might differ in words, but should look the similar.

Remove the LCD by removing the 4 screws behind it. Theres tons of info on here about replacing the foil.

The 4 Allen head screws on the top play no part in the removal of the pads, buttons etc..

Remove the pads by unscrewing the six screws holding the aluminum Drum Pad Sensnsor Plate.

thanks, all i seem to find is tutorials on how to replace the mk1 backlight, is it the same method for the mk2, btw besides the casing are the internal parts of mk1 the same exact as the mk2??

Yes, the internal parts are the same and interchangable minus a few minor hardware components. The LCD is not the same as the 60II.

There is a wire attatched to the backlight foil. The backlight foil sits between the LCD and the front glass of the LCD. The foil slides out the side of the LCD with the wire attatched. You will have to desolder the Wire from the old foil and solder it to the new one.

In this picture you can see the backlight foil sticking out the side of the LCD a bit with the two connections you need to solder the wire back on to.


I suggest you don't mess with it till you get the new backlight foil to really get a good visiual and understanding of whats going on.

if soldering is needed i won't attempt it and will send it to a tech for replacement but the backlight sellers i've found all say no soldering is required thanks to a "easy install connector" ??

So with this kit all you have to do is slide the old backlight out and slide the new one into place since a new connector is already soldered on for you.
