What CF Adapters Hot-Swap with ACARD Bridge in MPC60/3000?

I want to find an alternative hot-swappable CF adapter, that takes up minimal room, for example that does not come in a chassis and only has a single card connector, like the small cheap chinese CF card adapters that have been mentioned in other threads.

Does anyone have an idea where I can find one of these smaller/cheap CF card adapters, that is confirmed as allowing hot-swapping with an ACARD bridge in an MPC60/3000?

Or any CF adapter/drive that is confirmed as allowing hot-swapping in an MPC3000/60?

There doesn't seem to be any readily available information spelling out exact manufacturer/model of hot swap card readers that will work.

I am going to chase up as many currently available IDE/ATAPI card readers that I can find, that are listed as being hot swap in hardware, and try to find one that will hot swap in the MPC60/ASQ10 and MPC3000 with an Acard AEC-7720U SCSI-IDE bridge.

I will report back here with my findings, and a list of what I can and can't get to work, so the information is freely available here, and not kept a secret by sellers that just want to make money off of us, rather than helping out the community.

I have some of the ATAPI 741 card readers on the way as well.


These readers look interesting, they have a range of SCSI-CF card readers that emulate older SCSI devices, and this one apparently emulates a Zip/Jaz disk. Maybe it will hot swap in the MPC60/3000. Will chase up pricing on one of these tomorrow, and give it a try, without the need for the Acard bridge, if not stupidly expensive...

If anyone knows of other currently available IDE/ATAPI card readers, that support hot swap in hardware rather than software, please pass on the details so that I can chase those up and test them out as well.

Hopefully I can OCD an available solution to this.

you'll have trouble getting this working on 60/3000, know people who have tried and failed.

update - it works in 2000xl if a chip is replaced, not sure WHICH chip, its just what I hear.

will it work on the 60/3000 with that chip replaced? chances are not - welcome to Linn MPC CF roulette

again, thats more of a 2000xl drive, what MPC-Stuff charge too much for...

The price is not real cool...£835!

Different market, different price point, can't see anyone with an MPC paying that much for a CF reader.

I will not be testing this drive.

Did you get this to hot-swap?

You'd need to try loads of different kinds of CF cards to rule it out totally maybe, but did you personally get it hot-swapping?

No, couldn't get it to be recognised by the MPC at all.

Not like it was a non-compatible card issue, just would not give any indication that there was any drive connected.

Have a few different cards to test with, 3 different Sandisk cards, and a couple of others.

Hi,

I bought an AEUDMACF to see if it would work as a hotswap card reader with the IDE/ATAPI connection in the Akai MPC2000XL sampling drum machine, and with an Acard SCSI-IDE bridge in an Akai MPC3000 and Akai MPC60.

The AEUDMACF reader is not being recognized, and is not working, with any of these Akai MPC drum machines.

An ATAPI multicard reader from another company is recognized and works with these drum machines.

Can you please tell me if there are any alternative firmware versions available for this reader which might operate differently, and make it operational with these drum machines?

Or, are there any settings on the reader that can be changed, with a utility or the computer OS, which might make it operational with these drum machines?

In order for the adapter to support hot swapping it must be configured as a removable drive. Many specialty or older operating systems don't understand this. You can possibly fix the adapter using this firmware: <LINK REMOVED> - view the readme for information on how to apply it.

PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT supported firmware. It works by disabling the hot swap functionality and appearing to the computer as a hard disk would. After applying this firmware, DO NOT insert or remove media while the machine is turned on. Very severe consequences may ensue, ranging from crashing the machine or even loss of data. Use this firmware at your own risk.

...which suggests changing the firmware to a version that does not support hot swapping, in order to make it work at all.

This is what the readme file supplied with the firmware says...

AEUDMACF FIRMWARE PATCH VERSION 46.0.317

This firmware forces the AEUDMACF unit to appear as a fixed disk unit to the host adapter and operating system.

*** NOTICE ***

This firmware is a patch version. Applying this firmware will eliminate the hot swap functionality and is offered only on an "AS-IS" basis and is not supported.

To apply this firmware:
1. Connect the AEUDMACF unit to a computer running Windows 7.
2. Insert a media device and turn on the computer.
3. Run the program IPFLASH.EXE.
4. Click the Update Firmware button.
5. A dialog box will appear, it should already show AIDCW317.bin as the current file. Click OK to proceed.
6. Shut down the computer (do not reboot). Next time the unit is powered up it will be running the new firmware.

I had moved on to looking at SATA CF readers by that stage, and didn't want to bother turning the Addonics reader into a non-hotswap reader, just to get it working at all. Also, didn't have the original firmware to revert back to, and couldn't be bothered asking for it, so that is as far as I got with that reader.
