3.5os users - how are you transferring to CF?

are you all happily using hybrid partitions or are you using MPC editor formatted CF cards?

I'm testing out hybrid partitions at the mo - but all files I transfer to the partitions from either mac or PC seem to corrupt, naming changes and files cannot be loaded (yes have used 8 character convention).

have tried MPC Editor files and RS-16x files - neither are happy!

anyone drop any wisdom on if this is best done on an old mac, new mac, old pc , new pc??

any help appreciated!

Have not tried this myself yet (always sampling), will try it on my girlfriends old Mac Book with a cf slot (or?).

sample here am mainly sample only - but I got someone else asking me, and also I want to transfer some good 808/909 for layering.

PITA that I got the software working but the process of copying to CF card isn't going down so well.

come on guys - someone must have a answer for this surely?

must admit its not really been a priority of mine to find out until recently as I'm a vinyl head - I just want to chuck some 808/909 sounds on a card for layering under my vinyl hits...

I have one of my CF cards, a small 64Mb, devoted only to transfering from mpc to
Pc and viceversa. Mpc>Pc for backups of Pgms and seqs. Pc>Mpc for loading sounds I've edited in a Daw or drum kits (808, 909s...). This card is formatted in the mpc (normal -no hybrid partitions), so it only shows partition A when I put it in the Pc.
I've tried hybrid partitions, but I can't see them or access them in my Pc running Winxp.
Try formatting your card in the Mpc and see if you can transfer your files then without them being corrupted.

update on computer transferring - good news, got it working - my cheap USB CF reader WAS the weak link, used a transcend PCM adapter slotted it into my 2004 mac laptop.

Could you post a reference to the reader / adapter which is working for you? I need to get one.

How it's showing on Mac? Are you able to access all the partitions or just the first one? I'm running Vailixi with hybrid partitions and need to access my card on Mac.

there is no card reader - just a PCM CF adapter so I can slot it into my mac laptop.

don't use sh=tty usb card readers is the answer, use a PCM slot.

yep, all partitions can be viewed on the mac - when I format with 3.5os

If your computer has a PCMCIA slot, that can be done.

If no PCMCIA slot, USB readers work fine, I have a SanDisk USB card reader that works.

Just because a particular cheap USB reader didn't work for you, that does not mean that USB readers in general do not work.

I'm using MBP with ExpressCard slot, no PCMCIA. This shouldn't be a problem though. Will probably go for Lexar or Delock one. Thank you all.
