Hi Everyone. Thinking of buying a MPC60 MK1

Hi all,
I have just signed up here but have spent a lot of time browsing these forums over the past year.
I have always wanted a MPC60/3000 but held off to see what the Renaissance would bring.
After seeing the Renaissances "average" launch I am sure that I now want a MPC60.

I understand the limitations of the hardware, I will be only getting a maxed out one with 3.1 and SCSI.

I was hoping someone here could help me with a few questions regarding system dump/sample dumping to PC. Is this possible?
I have read somewhere that it is but I would like to read up about it if it even is?

If this isn't possible how would you recommend saving sample data? Compact flash seems great but I can't seem to find any rock solid solutions that are 100% working out of the box.
How hard is it to implement a CF card reader to the MPC?

If there's something easy, could you point me to it

I am somewhat familiar with the akai workflow as I own a S1100,S900, and the evergreen S612

I should probably add I would be happy to use floppy disks if I could copy them to my pc (backup the data to a folder or something?).
Is this possible with old DD 720k discs?

I'm on Win7 64-Bit for reference.

I suggest looking into the hxc floppy emulator... this seems like the perfect thing for someone like yourself to know about. You already own gear this would work with too...


Popping floppy disks into win 7 might be tough... you need I believe... a program like omniflop, and that program doesn't work with USB floppy drives... it must be one from the motherboard... which I doubt your computer has.

best idea is to get an old POS computer tower or laptop from the early/mid 90's... if you insist on linking it to a computer.

If this works well I can see myself adding these to all my old Akai's

I only saw the MPC 60MK2 listed on the compatibility page tho, will see if I can unearth any more info on that. My understanding is the MK1 & MK2 are the same guts inside so both should work fine.

This also means i dont need a MPC with SCSI right? as im just using the floppy as an I/O. could save me some $$ potentially.

yes and yes... the mkii is identical to the mk1 component wise... I suggest your priority be the max ram and many people here consider the 60 to be crippled without os 3.10 however I dont have that version and I am alright... it's just that they added many features and workflow enhancements that make sense compared to the odd way that 2.12 works.

as for the scsi, no... you wouldn't need that for the hxc emulator. (which works in the 60) in fact, it's better IMO than the scsi on the 60 because even with a card reader you cant make use of an 8 gig cf card... or a huge scsi hard drive.... it cant read large partitions... the floppy emulator doesn't have this problem because it can and the card is filled with blank floppy images... the 60 thinks you put in a real floppy disk and the buttons on the front of the emulator allow you to use the lcd display to choose the image you want (ie: virtually which floppy is in the drive)

great idea.... and cheap! I am probably going that route once my floppy drive dies.
