MPC 60 Help(broken mp)

My mpc 60 just says ;

"Mpc 60 Bios 96/(and a month and day assumingly the date of the v 3.1 O.S)"

when i turn it on and no matter how much i try to push the buttons or insert a floppy it doesn't respond. Been like this for a year or so and i would like to get some insight as to where the problem might be at. Cause it's not completly dead it starts up every time i turn it on but it also never responds to anything i do.

Have you got access to another set of roms, even the 2.12 ones? If so it might be worth trying to switch them over and see if it boots. This way you can either rule in or out a dodgy set of roms.

I would try popping the OS ROM chips out, and putting them back in, just in case there is a dirty or not properly made connection to the chip legs in the socket.

Then would try different OS chips, as micb suggests.

Then would try different boot ROM chip.


If you have never removed/inserted IC chips in sockets before, be very careful, it is very easy to bend/break IC legs, maybe get some tips and instructions from the net and Youtube.

I have a machine with the same issue over here.
I don´t think it will have to do with the Rom chips because os in the machine boots up fine.
To be sure i just dumped my rom chips and verifyed via checksum with the ones of a working machine.
They are ok.
I found out that a bit in my op roms chip was different.
At first i thought that would be the solution but it wasnt.
Posted about it in another thread.
So what i can say is that the fault lays within the Operation PCB.
Just now you know where to start searching.
I´ve tryed pretty much and was not able to fix the error...
